I drove a 2018 base 7MT with standard black brakes round the PEC track for an hour or two. It's the only MT Porsche I've driven other than my 1970T.

The 7MT was great so how flaming fantastic must the 6MT be that some hark on about? I wonder.

And as for brakes, the blacks did what they're supposed to do with usual Porsche efficiency. I couldn't tell any difference between those and the red brakes on my daily GTS. Is the difference between black and red so markedly different on the road or is red paint a placebo?

It doesn't. We just like to pay more for red calipers.

Yes, and brakes are the easiest thing to upgrade later if needed.

I don't understand all the talk of wanting a 6sp vs the 7sp. In my base C2 with MT, 7th gear is a VERY high overdrive gear that's only used on the highway at speeds over 75mph for better fuel economy. So for 98% of the miles I drive, I never use 7th. Now if you're asking for a 6sp, what ratios are you wanting in 4, 5, or 6th? Different ratios than what's already there? The shift lockout for 7th only allows shifting into if from 5th or 6th. You can't get there by accident. Downshifts from 7th to 6th are easily done. So at the end of the day, my brain sees the transmission as a 6sp with the option of an overdrive 7th if I want to use it. If Porsche just dropped 7th out of the box altogether would this make you happy?

Downshifting from 6th to 5th can be problematic. You've got to be very deliberate to hit 5th and not 7th!

In my car, a slight amout of force keeps the gear lever in the 5-6 gate without jumping into 7th. Mine takes a noticeably higher effort to overcome the lockout device for 7th. Perhaps there's a variance from one gearbox to the next.

Omg Heres an idea.. what if sport/sport plus/individual mode could permanently lock out 7th by using an electronically actuated internal bolt. Porsche if youre reading this, youre welcome. I just increased your manual car sales by 1000%

This banter does get funny. The 911R crowd thinks the GT3T is a wannabe (which it is) and the 911T is a POS. My guess is while Porsche only makes business decisions a prime reason for the GT3T is the opportunity created by those shut out of the R. The R really is very different from the GT3T and clearly the 911T has hit a target market. So who's wrong here.
