Any reason to get an extended warranty? As in they are mechanically frail, and an extended warranty will pay for itself.

From the limited research I have been able to do, the 991.2s seem to have little issues, but not many major mechanical weaknesses.

Well, if someone had a major mechanical item fail within a year (say 12k miles), that would be cause for considering an extended warranty.

You will find many people here willing to give their opinion on many subjects which are somehow portrayed as facts, so proceed with information you receive with a bit of skepticism. In my opinion, it's too soon for long term projections on that subject because the car is still reasonably new and Pcar owners typically don't drive their cars that much. If you own one, you probably have a fair idea of its sustainability. If you are looking to buy, find a nice long CPO to ease your mind. I have not read of many issues on the .2 thus far. other than nit picky ones. To your question, I can offer my personal experience. I have owned a .2 car for 13 months, logged 10,000 miles and have zero complaints. Now for an opinion on extended warranties, they are profit centers for the sellers of such instruments.

Not so sure. If they had a major mechanical item fail and it was fixed, not sure they would need an extended warranty if it was already fixed. If major parts were failing at the five year point, then I might see the value in an extended warranty.

Buy a CPO car and worry less. Enjoy during the warranty period and observe what happens with these cars over that time period.

What do we have - 4 year warranty? Why would anyone be worrying about an extended warranty at this point in a .2?

It's a decision that is years away. What did I miss here?

First time I've heard the term "mechanically frail".

As an FYI, these cars are pretty solid mechanically and beefy (not frail). Strong, and not "mechanically weak". Don't worry.

Those third party extended warranties are rip offs. The factory pre-owned CPO warranty is a good deal however.

Agree with STG.

Porsche has been making turbos for decades. They know how to do it and make them reliable. Skip the extended warranty. The 991.1s are bullet proof. There is no evidence to suggest that the 991.2s are any less reliable.

Porsche has been building Turbo cars since 1973/74, Carrera RSR 2.1 Turbo for racing and street cars followed right after. Turbo is not "new Tech" for Porsche. The 991 platform is solid so I don't see the reason for the concern on "fails".

You will be able to purchase an extended warranty after your original warranty runs out. I see zero reason to purchase the extended warranty up front.

Why would you give your money to a third party company so far in advance? You gain nothing.

The .2 is far too new. The .1 is noted to be very reliable and should serve as a good barometer for the .2. Of course, a new turbo engine means things could be different down the line, but who knows.

I'm debating an extended (third party) warranty after my CPO is up in a few months. The only one I'd consider so far (that I know cover 911's) is Fidelity, and I've seen multi-year quotes for just over a few K. Seems like a good deal if it can be had for that price, and be covered for several years.

Water pump has started leaking. The car has seen fairly regular dyno use. I've heard from another source that this, and the press-in coolant crossover pipes, can sometimes leak.
