I have been watching every video and reading everything I can find on this car since I first saw it. And doubled down after I placed my deposit last week. I personally never gave the brakes a second thought until I saw so much talk about it on the forums and videos. I believe the reason Porsche went with the base brakes with the ceramics as an option is to stick with the theme of the car. The ceramics are much lighter than the base and the S brakes. The base brakes are the second lightest. Taking in consideration the effects of un sprung weight the lighter the wheels the better. So I believe those two options support the philosophy of the model.
I currently own a highly modified base Cayman that I upgraded the brakes to S brakes with the GT3 master cylinder. I did it because I thought I needed to to track the car( plus I thought they looked cool) The truth is I didn’t notice a significant difference and in hind site thought it was money that could have been better spent. I had a conversation with a instructor at a track event that has a cayman, Carrera S and he is running base brakes and 18 inch tires. I asked him why and he told me because Porsche brakes are spectacular and the cost of the S brakes are significantly more expensive to replace. He can replace the base brakes 4 or 5 times compared to once with the S brakes. Plus is unspung weight is lighter.
