It depends on the road conditions you tend to drive on. Lots of potholes and it's your daily driver? Probably a good idea. Decent roads or you are a low-mileage driver, probably not worth it, unless you tend to curb wheels when parking.
My dealer's Wheel and Tire insurance also included free PDR which is the only reason I sprung for it. They called it "Wheel and Tire" insurance but when you read everything it also included PDR. I can mostly control what happens to my wheels.....the car while it's parked and some a-hole flings their door open right next to me while I'm inside shopping?....not so much control over that.

Tell them you're not interested due to the price and you'll "self insure", and I bet they'll drop the price quickly. These are easy money makers for them, they have an actual cost and then mark it up (some dealers mark it up substantially). You'd be surprised how quickly the price might drop if you say "no thanks".

Another thing to keep in mind, when you replace tires, and you buy them from Tire Rack, many now include road hazard warranty. So, in a way, you're double-dipping and over covered.

hi, back in nov 17 I negotiated $1295 for 5 year tire and wheel unlimited claim insurance thru a Penske porsche dealer. I wasn’t planning on getting it however when F&I lady asked me I told her with my previous 991.1 I picked up insurance separately after the sale thru dealer in FL. Mind you I’m in NJ however apparently all insurance products are regulated In Florida and everyone has the same price for insurance product. I quoted her that regulation and she spoke with GM and gave it to me for $1,295.

My car is about 2 weeks out. Just today I emailed with the SA about wheel/tire insurance. Their price is $1395 for 5 years, unlimited miles, and max payout of $7500. Tires must have 3/32" tread for replacement. He said coverage is provided by EasyCare and is good wherever you would like to you it. Not limited to a Porsche dealer.

Most dealers offer this insurance, but I doubt many are actually Porsche insurance. If it is Porsche, you can be certain it is way overpriced. When I picked up my GTS a couple of weeks ago the 5 year tire & wheel insurance was $1410. What you are really insuring is the first set of tires and the wheels for 5 years. Any subsequent to OEM tires can be insured for like $40/4 tires (the cost of two tires, if you just ask for it) at Discount Tire. So unless you have distinct risk of breaking a wheel, then it isn't worth it. I've never seen any of the policies cover curb rash and such for the wheels. They pretty much have to break due to road hazard to invoke the insurance.

My policy is comprehensive in that it covers road rash, any cosmetic fixings you want and there is no deductible or maximum payout. Valid at any dealership/tire shop. Insurer is performance protection and coverage states wheel, tire, and cosmetic repair/replacement.

DK. When I first got my 09 Targa, I had 4 flats in the rear within 9 months. Just got them plugged at a indie. Probably not the safest, but worked. Obviously if I could have have them replaced with insurance I would have.
