I have another tire with a nail in it, getting it swapped out tomorrow. 2 tires in one year, one more and I’ll be turning the corner to being in the black on insurance.

I believe I spent about $2500 for five years of coverage. I've already had five tires replaced. Haven't had any rim damage at all despite having 20's and using the car as a semi daily driver.

Some states (FL is one), they are prohibited by law from doing this. The really nice part about this law is the finance person isn't really pushy about trying to sell a bunch of protection plans, etc. since it isn't making the dealership any more money off of them.

Dealers make a huge mark up on all of these add-ons and will often negotiate with you to make a better deal. Personally, I feel that there's no need to give the dealer any extra money up front. You're already giving him enough. My last tire problem was 4 cars ago and was a flat on my Cayman that cost $25 to repair locally with another $50 to fix the ding in the wheel. A little shopping around can save a lot of $$.

If you assume a new tire is $500. To me I would be willing to pay between $2000 and $2500 for the insurance and additional peace of mind. Has anyone actually had to fully replace a wheel? that's got to be a lot rarer. In 20 years of driving I've had to replace one after hitting a massive pothole.

My wife used to be a Finance Manager at a Porsche dealership. She is now FI at a Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati and Lotus dealership. She does the same thing, especially when other coverages are not applicable or she senses the purchasers won't be interested as stretching it already.
I never purchase wheel and tire. Insurance will cover a rim and Tire Rack tires come with a road hazard warranty.
Pre paid maintenance is actually decent and opti coat is not bad if purchasing an expensive car. If keeping car long term or purchasing used, some of the extended warranty stuff is actually good as well. I suppose wheel and tire might be decent if you live up North with crappy roads, but I would never use it, only replaced 1 Rim due to damage in perhaps 30 years and get my tires from Tire Rack.

First off, this is a great thread with many helpful replies. I’m an insurance agent and filing a claim for a damaged wheel under ones auto insurance wil result in your deductible being applied and likely a surcharge as well, in MA, a surcharge will last for 6 years. Most driving high valued vehicles have at least $1000 deductible therefore, consideration of tire & wheel coverage needs to be analyzed closely for its value. I’ve got my 2019 991.2 on order and have been thinking about this topic for a while. Although I’ve yet to decide on whether i’ll pay cash for this vehicle or perhaps finance taking advantage of some very low rates, getting some pricing from the dealer on their tire and wheel coverage first may prove helpful in ones negotiating. Offering to finance through them will likely be beneficial in securing a far better price on this and other after sale items. Dealers definitely profit from those that finance usIng PCNA and other banks, as long as the customer maintains the loan for 120 days.

I know for sue that I will never damage a wheel myself and I am not financing so it seems you are implying that for someone like me the tire & wheel insurance is probably not a good idea?

I only wish I lived in an all year round warm climate such as FL or CA where wheel & tire coverage wouldn’t be on my list of “must haves”. I have 100% confidence in my driving abilities and if it wasn’t for the often poor road conditions many of us face after every winter season, I wouldn’t consider the coverage either. Like I mentioned, for those that want the coverage, use whatever tools necessary to negotiate what you feel is reasonable. If I can purchase what I feel is a comprehensive 4 or 5 year plan for $1200-$1500, I would give serious consideration to such.

I bought it for my 2018 GTS primarily because I had destroyed 2 wheels on the roads in NY on my AMG last winter. Since driving the 911, no damage and I am thinking it was unnecessary. In addition, with Porsche owners changing their wheels more than AMG owners, I see like new OEM wheels for sale for 30 cents on the dollar. If I had to replace a wheel from the dealer it would be 2000+, but online I can find them for 5-600. I wouldn't do it again, but if I blow 4 tires in the next 3 years I might reconsider my position...

During my 3 year lease, I used the wheel and rim insurance on numerous occasions - 3 occasions with a nail in the back right tire and numerous scuffs in the back right rim. All covered by the protection plan. When I bought the car outright, I purchased the plan again - 5 years for about $1,200. Totally worth it to me as I am sure to get more nails in the tires and more scuffs on the rims in the next five years.

CCDD - I stand corrected about the pricing. It is $2,200 for 5 years. Safe-Guard. For me, it is still worth it. I average one nail in a tire per year. That's about $2,500 right there (estimating $500 per tire over five years) and despite my best efforts, I manage to scuff up my black rear right rim at least a couple of times a year as well.
