I'm in the leather business, and sanding leather is no big deal, honestly. Every piece of the leather in the car was 100% sanded at the tannery before Porsche ever got the loose hides to make your interior (and steering wheel). You have corrected, or finished leather on the steering wheel. So a good leather tech can make it look like new same way a good dent guy can work out a door ding. Let them take another crack at it, why not? I do it all the time in my business. If the tech is a hack, then you get a hack job....but if someone who knows what they are doing works on it you can't even tell it was re-coated.
Picked my car up from the dealer for the second time today. Bad lighting when I picked the car up, so I'll take a closer look tomorrow and get back to them if I have a problem with the work. That said, the second leather guy is *much* better than the first one. The SA said the first one was the shop's pick, the second guy was his reference. At a glance, the lines are no longer immediately visible and the wheel is smoother to the touch. Before there was some weird gradation that drove me nuts in the sunlight - that's the big TBD for the morning. And to see if the color was still splotchy - but nothing immediately obvious right now under current lightning conditions. I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be able to put this behind me without replacing the wheel once I get to see everything in daylight.
