What is this sticking out of the OEM brake pads?

Question What is this sticking out of the OEM brake pads?
What are the two round things sticking out of the OEM rear pads? The replacement Centric pads don't have them, and they don't appear to have any mechanical function. These are off a 991.2.

Added mass, designed to reduce brake squeal.

They function like the others reported and are called harmonic dampers (I believe).
