Blend Mount does seem like the best since there are no visible suction dots on the windshield while driving.
Just thinking if a patrol car passes and looks inside. I see them all the time looking at the windshield and the plate to see if the inspection and/or tag has expired.

Very well stated.

What happens in Virginia (this goes for you out-of-staters, too) you get popped for speed via Reckless driving at 80 / 85 perhaps as high as 90 and you go lawyer up. Your attorney will plea bargain your case with the local DA the day of the hearing and you get downgraded to Improper Driving, a traffic offense with 3 points that has a $ 100 fine + court costs. Add the $ 500 to your attorney of choice. That's pretty routine.

As for the radar detectors, the only sure way is a full hidden unit, which I installed in my prior Porsche. It was a big job to do it right, four nights in the garage and a lot of interior and bumper parts on the floor. Virginia cops do confiscate radar detectors so its good to have a trash one in the car you can hand to him if you get lit up by a Trooper running a Vindicator unit in his prowler. Anything on the dash, they will get you sooner or later.
I remember that one. He didn’t play any pro ball for a while!

For the R3 best bet to hide it is to mount it very high on the windshield or use a visor mount. Stay away from Blendmount if you are looking to hide your RD. They sell R3 mounts with 3M tape which allows you to mount high on windshield. In general, windshield detectors are hard to hide. If I lived in VA, would definitely invest in a behind the bumper RD and Laser Jammer. Not cheap, but worth it in the long run in a state that bans both.

except for the fact that it’s line of sight for anyone behind to see the display going off through the rear window!

Default Beltronics Stir

+1 on the beltronics STir. I had these units installed in probably 5 or 6 different cars in VA and they worked like a charm. Even if they pulled you over as long as you kill the power they would have no idea what they are looking at. Since moving to FL I have added the lidar shifters but up in VA lasers are pretty rare even for state police. Call your local department and ask them if the use lasers, if so add the escort lidar shifter system for $400. It works.

StiR+ has been around for years and years and it is still one of the top performers. Although it has now been phased out, you should still be able to get it at a pretty decent price. Also, if the VA police use lasers, then a radar detector will pretty much be useless.

Default Cville

I got popped in a rental car up in Cville. Normally when I travel to VA I will even bring a travel radar detector with me for rental cars but I figured it was a short trip. I was going 55 in a 45 which was around a $250 ticket so worth fighting. Contacted 3 lawyers in town and no one would touch it. Florida is so easy, you pay the ticket clinic $75 and it automatically disappears.

I really hate in this story that my tax dollars are going to house and feed someone who was doing 90mph on a deserted back road and even worse small time drug offenders. Such a waste.

So I ordered a Uniden R3 radar detector (radar detectors are illegal in ol Virginny too), so I selected the R3 as apparently they are undetectable by radar detector detectors which the police use here. What a bunch of cat and mouse bs! So anyway, was wondering what folks do to conceal a windshield mount radar detector. I don’t see many options in a 911 coupe but maybe I am overlooking the obvious. Don’t want to invest in a custom installation as the technology changes so quickly that what you have is soon to be obsolete. Thanks in advance for suggestions.
Don't speed in VA. If you must, you could try an installed detector and laser jammer like Escort's 9500Ci. It is will cost you a pretty penny but that is the best bet now. I have a Uniden R3 as well and I keep it mounted on my windshield. Where I live, detectors are legal and reckless driving is over 100 mph on the interstate. The R3 is very good but if you get stopped, it won't be pleasant.

I have a subwoofer box that sits slightly higher than the top of the rear seats, I attached my Valentine V1 to it so it has line of sight through the front and back.
I have an old iphone I use as a bluetooth front end that also switches off the V1 display, it's practically invisible. If I didn't have the box I would find a way to attach it to the top of the rear seat.

Just FYI: I've read that while the V1 is not generally detectable by the VG-2, it is with the Spectre. I wouldn't count on a V1 going undetected in Virginia.

A quick check of this found this post of Valentine's own website FAQs and seems to confirm this. http://www.valentine1.com/Lab/AnsweredAlready2.asp

Lots of good suggestions guys, I appreciate it. I selected the R3 as apparently it can’t be detected by a detector detector. The R3 comes tomorrow and I am going to try to figure a way to attach it to the drivers visor, or in the extreme upper left corner of the windshield. I like the idea of the subwoofer box and that would be great if an iPhone could be used to control the detector but unfortunately this model won’t connect to an iPhone.

The city cops here use laser but I keep the speed no more than 5mph over throughout the city so not a concern. Plus when it’s really cold or hot you're not going to see them on the first place as they are motorcycle control. On the fun roads I travel in the area I very rarely see a parked cop; most of the time they are on the move so they’d be picked up using radar. And as far as I know the county cops don’t use laser. The VASP does use laser and they have a spot they like to sit on US 29 south of town, out in the wide open, and when you go by you can see they are precisely aiming a gun. When I go through that area I keep it at the speed limit. Waze is the only protection in other cases of stationary/laser. Or a laser jammer system

You've probably already came across Nick's post for his Musicar NW's radar/laser system install but here is a link just in case. The radar system is totally hidden and elegantly integrated into the car.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9166...er-system.html

Nick put together an updated system for me consisting of the Escort Max360Ci and 5 head ALP's. Installation wasn't too hard since it is really easy to run wires in the 911.

Here's some pictures of my system that was posted on RDForum if you are interested in taking a look.

Here is a picture of my blend mount. You can see it is in plain view. A cop will be able to see it even if you are passing him while he is on the side of the road. I think the only way to adequately conceal the detector is with a custom install.

I did contact Nick about this but he said he no longer sends out ‘kits’. That’s a shame as I am pretty mechanically adept and I don’t think I’d have a problem installing the system. I did see an authorized dealer will sell the installed Max CI 360 in the box, but only in their store in another state that’s a long way from here. Going back to Nick, I bet I could talk him into selling the ashtray controller mount if I can get my hands on a remote system.

I just saw that Escort is coming out with a new installed system which includes shifters, the Escort iX Ci, and will be priced under $1k. I’ll take a look at it when it hits the street, although it is a dealer installed system only (but I bet there will b a way to skin that cat). I’ll keep the Uniden and try to find a way to use it in the meantime in the 911, plus will use it when I take long trips in my Rice Rocket SUV.

Here's the install I did on my 2008 Boxster of the 9500ci. It was a lot of work to put it in.
