Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to ask the overall feedback from this update? Is the update worth it? Anything you hate about the retrofit?
Would this work with bluetooth, or has to be wired?

Thanks,
Ruben

No real downsides in my experience. Had some sound level issues in the beginning, but Nick from NM Automotive responded with solutions within hours.

It has to be wired. No Bluetooth support.

Did you have to take the Sirius board off? Not that I'm fan of satellite radio, but in general would try to preserve factory functionality.

Ideally I'd like to wait for the wireless version as well, but no definitive answer.

Email Response from Nick dated July 28, 2018:

Hi XXXXXXXXX,

Correct confirmed the CarPlay system will support a reversing camera (Including the guidelines, steering angle, parking sensor overlay etc) with your PCM 3.1 system 3.xx.

AndroidAuto is in final beta testing, we have some customers who brought the CarPlay unit testing the firmware now. The wireless version according to the manufacturer is a little way off, they have it on their R&D plan, but they may or may not develop it. They are primarily concentrating extending the range of manufacturers supported with their CarPlay kit.

Just let us know if you need any additional info.

Thanks
Nick

Few more questions. Is there a need to use a custom microphone for siri, of the unit can use the integrated Porsche microphone?
Also, do you have to run a custom usb wire, of the USB plug from glovebox would work just fine?

I came across few links with upgrade options. Would appreciate feedback on those:

One more thing Does the upgrade involve screen replacement or its just an extra internal board to plug in?

I have a 2011 Cayenne Turbo with Burmiester and was wondering if this would work for me.
Anyone from the Bay Area, CA been able to locate an installer?
Years back I got an audio installed at "All Pro Audio" in San Jose, but the place is closed now. I could not find a shop that has experience with this, at least could not find one that has reviews of CarPlay installed.

I might end up installing this on my own. If you want we could do pair-installation one day

No, carplay on the 4.0 pcm is with the usb cable. There’s only a couple vendors that are approved for the WiFi carplay. It’s not Bluetooth, not enough bandwidth.

I know there were a few folks on here in the SF Bay area. Have you guys located a guy/shop that can do this install?

Curious as to why you guys don't just go aftermarket and install an aftermarket unit like the Alpine iL-07 which has wireless Carplay by the way. Suncoast now sells what looks like a very nice kit which is plug in play with your OEM Porsche system (both BOSE and non-BOSE) for aftermarket kits which they say is also reversible so say if the car is sold you just replace your PCM back into the car. Seems like this would probably be cheaper and work better and you wouldn't have to worry about upgrading out of the unit at some point by Apple as continued compatibility with an aftermarket unit from Alpine or Kenwood is probably more certain. I realize you loose some OEM-ness by doing this but from what I can see it doesn't look that bad. Opening up the PCM is probably not a great thing as far as Porsche is concerned and likely also giving most installers in you guys areas a moment of pause if not outright terror thus the denials and turn aways. Thoughts folks?
