2018 allocations
 

Before the end of last year, I gave the SA I got my Macan from, a build for a 911 GTS. They were out of allocations, not only for 2017 but for the whole of 2018. I'm on standby for an extra allocation and I also put a request into Roadster.com.
I realize there's a 992 coming at the end of the year but it seems so soon to finish taking orders for 2018 models?

I would check around with other dealers for an allocation. Your dealer must not be able to trade for one.

I went to two dealers, but both are Autonation so essentially the same. I haven't set up my CP yet, I'm in CA. I went to Roadster to search for me and nothing in a week.

Porsche seems to struggle making US 911 sales volume increase year over year and yet they limit 911 allocations way below demand and seem to be fine with it. They do not want my money on a build I want?- fine, I go CPO...

A CPO is fine, I missed one in December and I'm kicking myself now.

Another data point - I'm going thru one of my typical car change outs. Selling the RS, buying a Radical, etc. In this process I wanted a C2S or GTS as a DD that would also get tracked every month or so. The local dealer didn't have any allocations but seemed to think getting one for either an S or a GTS wouldn't be that big a deal. Issue for me was that they could only promise that the car would be here in ~120 days. That was too long for me esp. with the 992 around the corner. Also on the 992 they said that per Porsche they are not expecting any deliveries until sometime in 2019 - no Q4 992 deliveries.

This is just my take - but reading various interviews over the years with PAG/VAG execs, Porsche's order system ensures that they have a very good view on global demand at the regional level - and this is particularly true for the US, where many cars are specified directly to a customer. In order to maintain brand exclusivity and pricing power, they limit supply to something below the actual demand level (as does Ferrari). And my guess would be that this is most true for the 911, followed by the boxster/cayman.

This is weird. If they are winding down 2018 production then what are they going to be selling this year? The 992 wont be announced (and order-able) until the fall. Maybe this transition will be similar to the 2012.5 991? Perhaps they will have a 2019 991.2 and a 2019 992?

I think the 992 is behind schedule which is throwing a monkey wrench into the transition scheduling.

The price delta between a GTS and an S is small.... Porsche wants to protect dealers and force them to sell the peasant 911's also.

I read the margins on cars gong East are significantly better than those headnig West, so what else should they do......
