Spark Plug DIY tool...a great tool!
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9bacbd835.jpeg Just finished changing my spark plugs at 40k miles. Big shout out to Plenum for his YouTube video! Anyway, for those taking on this job, I HIGHLY recommend getting this $12 tool from Amazon. Magnetic spark plug socket with universal extension attached. This tool got absolutely perfect on our 991’s. You can attach the ratchet directly or another extension. So much better than the rubber insert socket. Have fun! |
Thanks for sharing. One day, I may even have a 911 to use it on. :) |

It’s less expensive on Amazon if you’re a Prime member. |

I cannot seem to find Plenum's you tube video. Could you pls direct? Thanks. D |
It's not a difficult job at all; far easier to get access and remove the heat shield covers on both sides of the 991 engine then in the 997.2.
Here is a very good youtube video that covers the replacement on the 991 GT3. |

How difficult is the DIY? For perspective, I’d give an oil change difficulty rating of 3.5 and air filters change a 5.7. Serpentine belt change a 6.3 out of 10. I was really apprehensive about working on my car. But after pouring over all the YouTube videos & forum information, I am very glad I did all the work myself. I really took my time on all projects and made sure I had all the right tools. I am no mechanic but I did work at Pep Boys as a teenager! I wanted to get to know my Porsche a little better and after completing the 40k scheduled maintenance myself, I bet I saved at least $1200. After completing all this work, I really appreciate the engineering that went into our cars. Everything went back as easily as it was to take off & everything “just fit”. I didn’t believe that doing this basic maintenance myself would be a hazard if I royally screwed up...unlike say a brake job! Anyway, just my 2 cents. I’m very satisfied and when I do this again I’ll be almost 60 yo! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...018fc0788.jpeg Magnetic spark plug socket & old plugs |

Magnetic Spark Plug Socket
Does this work on the thin 991 plugs?

Thin 991 plugs? I don’t know what that means, but I have to believe there isn’t any differences. I assume you’re using the OEM spark plugs?
