Cross Shopping: 991 GTS v 997 Turbo
I've been all over the map lately for my next vehicle. It will not be a daily driver, but I need the manual transmission I think In my life.
I was set on a 997 turbo with decent mileage and certain options, however the cars I'd want are nearing 80-85k. (Adaptive seats, pccb, sport chrono sub 30,000 miles).
The other caveat is my daughter has to be able to fit. (She's 2, rides in forward facing seat).
I noticed the 991.1 GTS in 6 speed might be a good option. Well equipped models are $100k and it's a much newer car (alas no metzger though).
Anyone else cross shop these cars?

I think the car seat should fit either car. I owned a 997TT - it's a very, very fast car. The way the turbo comes on is pretty crazy. If you like that, then go for it. But in all other ways I'd say the 991.1 is a better car.

Very different experiences but both are awesome. If your kid is a consideration then I'd go 991.1 for the room and "comfort." Are you stuck on a GTS? Easy to get the experience for a lot less money sans badge. If you just want a Turbo or have plans to build big power then there is only one choice

Before I bought my 991.2 base, I have my heart set on a 997tt. I drove a stick and really liked it. It felt like the right car for me. Then, on a whim, I test drove my present car. I was ready to not like it as much, as it was slower and a PDK. I realized a few things in that test drive. I wanted some creature comforts that the 997 doesn’t have (LCA, CarPlay, a nice sounding stereo without performing surgery, a newer, hopefully saver crash structure), and I fell in love with the driving experience. Oh, and I also carry two kids in there. A six year old in a booster and a 9 year old. They might like it as much as I do...

Went from 997tt to 991gts. Went in to buy a 991 Turbo, fell in love with the NA 9A1. But... if you like torks they were very noticeably missing in the GTS after two years in the Turbo, and a 996TT X50 before that.

I had a 997.1 TT MT which I was sorry to part with. Went looking for a 991.2 Turbo and wound up with a 991.2 GTS PDK. All I can say is that it is one of my best decisions and would heartily recommend the GTS. I am totally delighted with it. I completely agree with Computertom, sans the kids, mine are way to big to even think of fitting in the back seats.

I went from a 997.1 Turbo to a 991.1 Turbo S. I loved the 997, but the 991 is a huge improvement, especially the interior comfort and tech. I’d never go back to a 997 after owning a 991.
You aren't really comparing apples to apples with a 997 Turbo vs. a 991 GTS. They’re both excellent but they are quite different. As mentioned above, the Turbo is the way to go if you’re after the thrill of the boost. If you’re looking for a better car overall, then the 991 is the way to go.
