Default Door panels

So was just noticing today that on both door panels the middle of the top of the panel ( flat area near the glass) appears to be bowed up a little in the middle, I can press it down and it flexes, the ends don’t. Never noticed this before, car is 5 months old. Normal? I did have PPF put on the mirrors so I think they took the panels off in the process. Just never noticed before so thought I would ask.

thx

Leather or Standard material door panels?

There's a number of threads on door panel replacements because the tops were falling apart.

I believe most if not all were the standard material not leather.

So looks like they did not mend this issue with later model 991's.

Apparently it's an issue with earlier 991's, though my 2012.5 doesn't seem to have it.

Standard door material, looked at the other threads, my does not appear like that at all. There is some play it I press doe. On the top of th panel as it’s a slightly soft material. It looks to be slightly higher in the middle but photos can’t capture it. But I can just see the slightest hump in the middle that’s about 10 inch long. Perhaps this the early stage of separating? I will watch it, perhaps swing by dealer to see if the other 991.2 panels are the same. No emergency yet, as nobody can tell so I may just wait for the 10k oil change.

The new panels I got on my car (after a goodwill 85% off the cost replacement) are like you describe - though a pic would help... Much better than before but the center section can be pressed down a little bit. I think we just have to live with it at this point, Clearly those door panels are not the best feature of the 991 model line.

Mine are seemingly as good as it’ll get, but an SA told me that it isn’t hard to get Porsche to approve a replacement door panel. I was wondering, is that covered under CPO? Seems CPO is supposed to exclude trim stuff.

Based purely on what you describe (and not showing any pictures) your panel trim issue should be covered by CPO -- I had a couple of "cosmetic" items replaced under warranty due to seams or joints separating.... I think as long as the issue can be viewed as a failure of the manufactured part such as materials separating due to adhesive failure, things like that.

Good Luck!

That's how it starts . I only had one standard car ( a 13 Boxster S) . Here's photos of what mine looked like. The second one is the hump graduating to end up like the first .

take it in and get it fixed under warranty

I, for one, would not be able to drive the car looking like that

looks like some clips broke of someone forgot to put some screws in

Mine were replaced two weeks ago under CPO for no charge on a 5+ year old car. CPO rocks.

I would say for interior wear and tear you are correct...... but I would place this under failure of materials.

Terry was your interior the base materials as well or leather?

Did it look distorted like the pics above, or were you able to get them preemptively changed even without actual warping?

The driver’s door was separated at the end. The passenger side was warped in the middle. It had happened since last summer. They were fine before that. My SA took pictures and submitted to PCNA for goodwill. That is when I learned my car was CPO until July 2018. I bought it from a Cadillac dealer and was unaware of the prior CPO. My dealer then handled the replacement under CPO warranty.

I just got mine replaced under my CPO warranty yesterday on 2014 991.1. CPO paid for its self on the first visit.

I took my 2015 in 6 weeks ago for both door panels (I still have a full year under factory warranty). The driver side was replaced and the passenger panel still has not arrived from the Vaterland. So this is still an issue across all 991.1 models. Hope they fixed it with the .2’s.
