991.2 Manual Transmission Question
All,
Does anyone know if the 7MT in the 991.2 is a field serviceable unit? Not talking about clutches here -- e.g. if the 2nd gear synchro needs replacement in 10 years, can the tranny be rebuilt like the G50 in the aircooled cars ? Or is it a $15K swap with a reman from Germany like the PDK?
cheers,
sean

Based on the fact that there are aftermarket companies offering shorter gear ratio packages for the 7mt I’d say it would be “serviceable”.
Probably still cost you $15k though lol.

Are you say that "your" car will need one in 10 years or that it's a recommended service for all? If so, I just may go back to Corvettes.
My M5 is 15 years old with 151000 miles. It had the clutch and flywheel replaced at 33000. It's pulled strong ever since. And I don't baby it by a long stretch. I wouldn't be surprised if I had to have it changed soon but then it would be expected.
Just doing it at 10 years "just because" wouldn't sit well with me.

I think all gear swaps I have seen have been with the 6 speed unit, not the 7.

My guess is that it will be serviceable in the future. I had the front differential rebuilt on my 996 C4S, and it was supposedly not field serviceable. Dealers replace the entire unit, but my independent mechanic rebuilt it. As the 991.2 ages and more cars need to be repaired, mechanics will figure out how to repair things. I wouldn’t worry about it.
