991.2 problems

Just had a brief conversation about the reliability of 991.2 cars with my mechanic. His observation has been that a number of the 3.0 turbo motor cars have had issues with vacuum lines and solenoids.

What else has the group had issues with?

I am not reassured by the plastic oil pan either.

None in almost 2 years and 5K miles. Always change oil at 1K miles and yearly regardless of schedule. That may not be what you are seeking.

No problems after 3 months and 3k miles. I drive it a lot, my 2018 C4S. Save for some minor squeaks and rattles on bad roads, it has been bulletproof. I don't baby it either now. I will be up to 10k in less than year and I will see how things go.

Zero problems after 12,501 miles (7 months).

My father has identical car - his had a vacuum leak at delivery. He’s at 10,439 with zero problems since fix.

Had my 2017 C2s for 18 months and 6400 miles. So far: recall for some fuel system related bolt that could corrode. Update for the front axle lift system. I think that was software. My car developed a chirping sound when I hit any bumps so dealer had the car for a week to find it. Turned out the left rear upper strut mount needed some grease. During that time they also noticed the water pump was weeping a bit so replaced it. I have not had any issues while out driving the car except for the chirping noise. Overall I am happy with the reliability. Of course all the issues were under warranty so no cost to me.

Actually the .1’s have a lot of issues with the vacuum solenoids. Search for changeover valve.

No issues in 9 months (and the car gets plenty of track time).

4 months. 5000 miles. One issue: There is a plastic ring that holds the top of the boot on the manual transmission to the shift lever. It's cheap. Mine broke and the boot separated and fell down. The shift lever could also be pulled up and totally disconnected with little force.

Replaced under warranty. They had to replace the entire assembly (shifter and boot) since they come as a connected assembly from Porsche.

we called it a CoV. Boosted cars call it TCV. Same part. Same part that IPD made for Volvo’s that was said to be more robust.

if I had a number 2 car would absolutely get this.... https://www.ipdusa.com/products/8900...v-s60-v70-xc70

Zero issues, many miles and my car is tuned. The oil pan is fine, newer composite plastics for applications such as this are not the same as the old cheap stuff made in the 80's. I can tell you that my company uses similar stuff in certain parts of our firearms in place of steel. Our tests have shown they perform better and last longer.

"My mechanic says..." not touching that one. Similar statements by mechanics started the dreaded 'IMS BEARING FAILURE' craze when supposedly every 996 on the road was moments from blowing up. Realized after clocking 132K on my 996 C4S with no issues and speaking with other 996 owners, very few cars actually had issues.

Thank you to all for the input. It is good to know that so far the cars are living-up to their robust reputation.

So far we too have had good experiences with the P-cars we have owned.

I don't think I would own a car where changing oil every 1k mattered. :(

Nothing more than the minor stuff the 991.1 experienced. I would not worry.
