Default Painting Brake Hats

Thinking of painting my brake rotor hats black. Any suggestions as to paint? Seems fairly straightforward. Has anyone done it? Any must do's and do not's?

I did it on my C2S when I changed the rotors 2 years ago. They look as good as the day I painted them, about 6,000 miles later. I used VHT Satin Black caliper paint. I just made sure the hats were clean and grease free, and masked off the rotor surface.

Same but used a VHT Grey which is sort of close to the factory grey coat. (Make sure you clean the hats of grease/brake dust, give the surface a good key and they will hold up well) Its held up great so far.

Also used "Super Wrap" Caliper Paint to repaint calipers. Closest thing to powder coat in a can.

If you are going to go through the trouble I'd just take them off and get them powdercoated.

That was the initial thought, sourcing the caliper piston seals was an issue. I have had them on order for close to 10 months now.

I did mine in black and used black oil base paint. Did it two years ago without issue. Just make sure they are cleaned. I even removed the coating on mine with brake cleaner.
