Question for those who prefer the .2. Will you be trading to a 992 when is available? Every point you are making for .2>.1 will work on 992> 991.2 (unless Porsche really screws up on the new design). But I'll keep my .1 because what I like on .1>.2 will still be valid on .1>992 argument.

Great question. At least for me, impossible to know without driving a 992.

While it's hard to pick a bad Porsche sports car, I think Porsche hits the occasional sweet spot—and those are keepers. How we define those sweet spots is personal and also based on access to experience in the various cars, but the 991.2 Carrera line cars seem like a real sweet spot. Up there with the 987.2 Boxster Spyder, 997.2 RS 4.0, 997.2 GTS, and others going further back. This one just happens to have a "normal" badge. Whether the 992 is another sweet spot remains to be seen. Will be curious to see what it's like....

One other thing to consider about the 991.1 versus 991.2 debate: Price. I could pull off getting a new to me 991.1 C2S. The 991.2 C2S is still too much for me. I'm thrilled with my 991.1 C2S, but I will be looking to acquire a .2 at a later date as I do like the grunt turbos provide. In the meantime, I'm learning how to drive what I have at autocross and DE events at Laguna Seca (2x so far) and Thunderhill (1x). Joining PCA was key for me, as the autocross events are teaching me a lot.

Fwiw, that's a great looking 991.1, but every one of these cars can be picked at. I can't stand the look of PSE on the .2, or the wart we got stuck with over our engine grilles...but these are some slim pickins when it comes to faults.
Stock 991 photo I grabbed...but I had a Basalt Black 991.1S (2012.5) and a Black 991.1S (2013), both with Carrera S wheels (like in the pic) as my winter wheel set, so I certainly think the 991.1 is still gorgeous! As is the 991.2!

(BTW the look of the PSE on the .2 has really grown on me. Alright, I will be honest, I think both the 991.1 and the 991.2 look fantastic!!!)

Good try . Nope not initially. It might be ugly. Until someone can show me definitive information that says the 992 will be that much technically different and amaze me as the .2 has over the .1 I'll stay put for a little while. Again I think mechanically the .2 will be closer to the 992 than it is the .1. Folks have said the 992 is an all new platform, I hope I can find a good read on that and learn how. Are they moving the engine ahead of the axle? .

Your point "...will still be valid on .1>992" is a great one in your case! Well put.

As an owner of a .2 I will not be trading for 992, I don't like the new interior nor the new rear, much less the hood (from what we can tell with camouflage).

Awesome post.

I simply can't wait for the .2 vs 992 fight club thread.

I can't even begin to imagine what all that popcorn will do to me...

But the 3.0 also offers the option of dipping into useful torque without a downshift, something the 3.4 and 3.8 don't. Yes, there's some lag on big throttle openings at low rpm in a higher gear, but the surge that follows brings in-gear acceleration the NA engines simply can't muster. It's nice to have that option while sipping coffee on a long haul down to Los Angeles. Or, you can drop a gear or three as you might in a .1 and you're gone. It's the added dimension—two kinds of engine in one—that I dig, and that's absolutely objective. That added dimension is there in the .2, and it isn't in the .1.
^^ This is very well said and I think shows that Pete has clearly spent a lot of time with the 3.0 as well as the 9A1 motors. I hope that anyone who is cross-shopping 991.1 vs 991.2 reads this. The turbos are transformative and mostly in a good way IMO over the .1 engines, the torque low-down is very very fun and boost available instantly is also wicked when cruising on the highway.

BTW - in the holy 4.0 in the 991.2 GT3 even, the power delivery is turbo-like IMO. Surges at 3800-4k RPM with another around 7k, it was not as linear as I expected based on the NA reputation. Also still have to downshift to find *rapid* power in even the GT3's engine when at freeway speeds, whereas in the 3.0 I just hit throttle harder and boost comes instantly with no lag

I'm taking a wait and see approach to the 992 before I cast judgment but agree it's not looking good so far..

I'd probably trade my .2 for a 992.2.. Definitely not the 992.1

I suspect I'll be hanging on to my 991.2 for a while. They're getting rid of the 5-dials and I think I want to revel in that for some time; as well, I am reading comments about how the new 992 has a lot of Panamera about it. Judgement reserved. I'm sure it will be a killer drive. But getting OT on 991.1 vs .2

Is it weird that I like the lobster back of the 991.1 over the vertical slats of the 991.2? That's the one thing I'm not really thrilled about on the 991.2. Not a huge fan of the new grill..
