If she knew I was here exploring the differences between a .1 & a .2 because I’m considering an upgrade for my future she’d be even MORE irritated. One thing I’ve gotta consider is where I live. High altitude really robs NA and forced induction helps mitigate the losses... but I’m still largely on the fence, and probably years out from making the decision.

HA! I have a 996 that I got 4 years ago. Wife’s still irritated. But I agree even my older 911 is by far the most enjoyable 4-wheel toy I’ve ever owned.

Been ages since anyone posted here so I'll do the thread bump honors (plus who can resist the 500th post in a thread). I could not decide based on everything I read, so I went and drove both. For me it was .1 all the way. I freely admit that the .2 low end grunt was there and power throughout the band was better, but the sound of the .1 was intoxicating. It just somehow felt more "pure" to me. I can totally see how people prefer the .2 though. It really is a can't go wrong decision. It's actually kind of cool that we have this choice.

Is there a bad 911 (barring condition issues)?

For those of us living at altitude the turbos are a big plus for the 991.2. At about 3-4% hp loss per 1,000 ft. for an N/A car, a 991.1 S may be down more than 70hp to a 991.2 S where I live which is above 5,000 feet (even a turbo looses some power too, so that number is not precise). There are passes and roads that take you near to (and at least one) over 10,000 feet.

How Embarrassing For 991.1?!
I toiled for months between 991.1 and 991.2, even considering the 997 Turbo and the 992 Carrera S. Not the only one to deal with this ‘first world problem’ torment, as made obvious by a bazillion other posts. I bought a 991.2 GTS because it’s the better car in ALMOST every way…except that damn EXHAUST NOTE of the 991.1 GTS, which is like car guy crack, it is intoxicating and addictive. But um, I’ve read about 683 articles about the NA 991.1, it’s collector value, it’s crappy low-end tranny confusion, and it’s mediocre response at low revs. What seems to be written in every article is the ***insert sound from the heavens*** hailing of the 991.1 as the LAST of the NA cars ever to be made by Porsche ***insert laugh track***. So how embarrassing will it be, and how many articles and blog posts will need to be rewritten, when the 992.2 is announced (officially) to include a 4.0 liter NA engine?!!?!?! Asking for a friend…well, a certain group of friends.
