Default New to forums Turbo vs Turbo S questions.

Hello, been lurking on the site for a few months and figured I need to make an account and say hi and ask some questions. I've been in the market for a 991.1 turbo or turbo s for a bit now and have some questions. At first I was pretty much dead set on getting an S mainly due to the extra HP/TQ. But after thinking about it for a bit I figured I'd look at a regular turbo also. I've been told the only difference in the power between the two is a computer update and if the same ecu tune is put on both cars they will end up making the same HP/TQ, is that true or am I missing something? Also other than CCB and some interior upgrades is there anything else major that the S has that the non S does not have? I plan on making this a semi daily driver and taking it to the drag strip so getting exhaust, tune, and maybe a couple other things is in the cards but I want it still to be something me and the warden can drive daily if we want.

Also for those who have had some of the basic tunes and such done how has it effected the reliability of the car, last thing I want to do is spend 125-150k on a car and then add a few more grand and have issues with it driving. I also figured that going with the non S might be a little better if I'm going to put a lot of miles on it just because the brakes alone will be significantly cheaper to change out if I ever get enough miles but it also seems the S are easier to sell but maybe that will be irrelevant if I plan on putting a tune and such in??? Also are there some options that I should have on the non S that are kind of must have items.

0-60 times are the same. No mortal can tell the performance difference driving the 2; even back to back. The S is more for bragging rights and Cars and Coffee. The S does have more included options which you are already aware

Welcome to the forums. As mentioned above, the turbo specific forum is your best bet. That said, I have some answers to your questions.

First of all, in the 991.1 series cars, the power difference between a turbo and a turbo s is tuning. The hardware is identical, and so you can achieve similar power output between the two cars with an aftermarket tune.

Next, there are several things that the turbo s offers as standard equipment that are optional on the turbo. These things may matter to you, and they may not. Generally, turbo s cars are equipped with more options than turbo cars. Here are a few things that the turbo s has as standard that are not standard on the turbo:

Turbo S centerlock wheels
PCCB
Black chrome tailpipes
PDCC
Sport Chrono package
PDLS+
Front and rear Park Assist
Sport Design exterior mirrors
Adaptive Sport Seats, 18-way

You'll also find that many turbo s cars are equipped with the Burmester sound system, online services, voice control, additional interior leather options, etc.
