1st Impression from NA to Turbo S
Since this forum has been my home for the past 4 plus years I figured I would share my 1st impressions since leaving the 4S NA world and moving to the 991.1 Turbo S.
First as you all know I am a big NA & MT fan. I really enjoyed my 4S and with the addition of the Kline Iconel Exhaust and the Cobb AP the car was near perfect to drive with plenty of growl.
Now to the Turbo S. I am no stranger to Porsche TT cars as I have owned 4 previous TT cars of the 996 and 997 generation. I had forgotten how stiff and planted the TT cars are. The Turbo S is solid as a rock firmly planted on the road with firmer/stiffer feeling steering but great road feedback. I had expected the car to be a little more numb but this is not the case at all for me as I feel the car is very communicative with the road while driving at any speed. The rear wheel steering I thought would not be that noticeable but I believe that is one of the reasons this car feels more secure and confident than previous TT's. Car has PASM, PDCC, PADM, PTV which all work to make the car feel like you can really ring it out and stay on the road.
The PDK. I have driven MT cars since I was 16 yo. That's over 47 years. I have to say my left foot is still searching for the clutch pedal occasionally but I am getting used to paddle shifting and I believe Porsche PDK is one of the best auto manual systems out today. So I'm in the early stages of understanding how and when to use it manually.
Performance. This is where this car really is eyeopening. In auto mode normal the car is docile and excellent for touring but power is always there if you need it to pass or enter an on ramp. But who drives in normal mode anyway? Sport Mode seems to start to **** off the demons inside the car and the shifting is crisper and faster and more throttle brings shifts higher in the rpm range.
Power is immediate and lag is almost not noticeable. I drive twisty horse country roads to work which were appetizers for the 4S. The Turbo is flawless here with the only difference being when you look down you are doing it at much higher speeds. Very confidence inspiring and no lack of road feel.
I'm glad I have my Escort 9500 IX in the car because without noticing a quiet comfortable touring speed down the short stretch of highway I have to travel seems to be 95mph. Have to correct myself constantly so I don't end up in jail.
Sport Plus or Race Mode. This is where PDK really shines. Sport Plus in auto carries each shift to redline. If you put the pedal to the floor the Turbo S hits redline so fast I don't think you could drive it effectively as an MT car. Sport Plus with the pedal floored and hang on and hope your eyeballs don't implode. If you shift it to manual you can control the rpm and shifting but still not as effective as PDK can do on its own. My other TT's were awesomely fast this is another dimension as this car seems to get the power to the road so effectively. 0-60 is supposed to be around 2.6 seconds, who knows as you're too busy hanging on to count.
I have not used Launch Control yet and I'm driving it randomly till I get the PPF on next Tuesday. Even after I can't see doing that much. That's it so far. Thanks to all here who have been great communicators and helpful ambassadors of all things Porsche. I wil visit regularly as it has been a pleasure to read and share, poke fun and referee on this forum. Best to all.

Burning Brakes
Thanks for the write up. I had the opportunity to launch a Turbo S at Barber Motorsports park using launch control and did about 0-80 before a max braking exercise. It was the most violent (and fun) experience I have ever had in a car!

4S to Turbo is the jump I ponder all the time, so I appreciate the write up. Did you only consider TTS or did you also consider a TT? Curious about the decision there.

Congratulations on your TTS. I am about to trade in my CPO 15 TTS for a 18 GTS with a build about 139K. I bought mine used with 7300 miles on it and put on about 2K in the 11 months I've had it. Just a weekend car with one 800 mile trip. Scary fast (for me). The torque is a great useable power surge.
My sales tax offset will be about 7K. New build is what I paid for the CPO TTS.
Currently have GT4 for track and previously a 991.1 GT3 which I tracked about 20 x.
So for me the GTS will be a better fit. Still usable power with a soundtrack. RAS, rear wheel drive, apple car play, LCA.

Congrats on your car it looks great! I also more than appreciated your insight especially since it is coming from your experience with previous 911s. I purchased a 2016 991.1 Turbo Cab in Mid August of this year, it had 1,975 miles on it and came with 3 years left of original warranty plus a CPO which gives me a Porsche warranty good for 100,000 mile until Sept 2022.
Since I've owned the car I have added a little more than 5,000 miles on it. The whole front end is PPF including mirrors and inside of the door handles and within the next week I plan of covering the rest of the car. My reasoning is that I just want to keep putting miles on this car. I am still learning how to use the paddle shifting and when to move to Sport+ which is not that often, yet. I am hoping try auto crossing in the Spring.
This is my first 911, I have a Cayenne S which has gone from DD to limited use until it gets colder and the snow falls, I'm in the Northeast.
Over the next year my wife and I plan on taking the car South this winter for a few months and then next Summer across the country. Damn all my friends seeing the country in a RV, this will be our RV and two carry-ons fit nicely in the Frunk. (As long as you don't use that plastic laundry like basket liner)
I know I went on a tangent here but your posting was inspiring to me. I love this car especially after I spent most of my life driving 5 and 7 series BMWs, I can really appreciate it.
Oh, I live in an area of amazing twisty back woods and farm roads and mountains. Sure these cars can go fast straight but I don't mind wearing tires out on these 35 to 55 MPH (posted LOL) roads in New England. This is where I accumulated most of the mileage. I always thought that these roads were only fun on my Harley, well the Harley is now collecting dust.
The only question I keep asking myself is what took me so long to buy a 911, I mean I have wanted one side I was 14, which was 46 Years ago, gulp????

As far as sound I had Europipe Exhausts on my previous TT's and am looking at both Europipe and Kline. With the Europipe installed I never felt slighted by the sound value. Fantastic system.

Beautiful. Congrats. Thanks for sharing. One of best aspects of Rennlist is owners with experience reviewing cars and comparing/contrasting models.

Wow! I can almost feel the adrenaline pumping just by reading your description!
I would love to follow your example and move from a 4S to a TTS.....maybe in a few years but not now!

Congrats and great write up, but damn it now I want to do the same.

Nice write up - thanks for sharing! Out of curiosity, is the TTS noticeably quieter/refined at highway speeds? I've only been in a 991.1 C4 and a C2 and I find the road noise is loud at 70+, so I find myself very aware of speed. It feels like the plastic liners by the rear wheels aren't well insulated compared to most cars. The Cayenne is so quiet that I find myself going 90 easily without even noticing.

That is until I mash the pedal, then you can hear me screaming from the cockpit.

Congrats on the TTS purchase, and more importantly, jump back into a turbo Porsche! Sorry had to add that last part as I'm a strong turbo proponent vs NA with all the low end TORQUE that comes with it!
I bet you'll like the launch control function more than you realize! I had a 997.2 Turbo PDK at one point in time, and the car was absolutely violent from a standstill when using the launch control, so much so, that the lose-your-breath feeling would almost make me abort and get off the throttle! Your's will be even that much more with the extra power over the 997!
