GTS Showdown Results - Total 911

3 Attachment(s)
This was an interesting article given all the .1/.2 GTS discussions. Total 911's recent article compared the 997, 991.1 and .2 GTS versions to crown "the best modern driver's Carrera"

Spoiler alert - Don't look at the results in the pics if you want to read the article and find out for yourself.

Let the debate begin!!!

They don't like turbos 😀

ipse dixit 09-27-2017 12:12 AM

Yeah, but they didn't throw a tune on the 991.2

Don't understand GEAR CHANGE and why .2 scored so much lower than the other two.

Handling for 991.2 should have scored a few points higher than the others.

Regardless, seems a bit biased in measuring only a few things, but not others (tech, new performance options, fit and finish, etc.). And of those items measured, pretty subjective IMO.

I'm biased yes, but I drove both and subjectively scored both. 991.2 won in every category (and then some) except one (exhaust sound).
I did that before ordering a new one.

They can throw a tune on the .1 too.

That’s not the point. So what, the .2 would get 1-2 more points on acceleration?

I doubt .2 had the rear steering option. Other than that, same steering as the .1

It’s about character, behavior, and experience, not 0-60 times and Apple CarPlay.

Long live the NA experience

Even the 997……!!!!

Smaller, 6 speed, and pretty much same engine as .1 (as so I understand).

It’s a nice one too.

I would love to also have a 6 speed manual 997 GTS in my garage.

This thread goes to hell in 3....2....

Damn, interesting that the 997 is rated so high. I'm one of the people who prefers the N/A engines, but this seems pretty biased. Arbitrary scales, arbitrary set of measures, etc.

I thought the 991.2 was supposed to have a better chassis? Better handling?

I'd take a 991.1 GTS over a .2 in a heartbeat, but that doesn't mean it's the "better" GTS... Just means I'm stupid

Throttle responsiveness rating is no surprise though. The variable vane technology is cool and definitely reduces lag, but you still can't get the instant response of an N/A engine

I've had a 991.1 and .2. Guess I should have went 7.2. Hmmm.

If you want to see an objective test look at the Sport Auto Super test results - they measure everything right down to lift and down force, plus full MAHA dyno and a raft of handling, braking and acceleration tests. Plus timed fully instrumented runs round the Ring and Hock Kurs

The 991.2 GTS was ranked ahead of the 991.1 GT3 and GT3 RS - for what its worth they do the most exhaustive independent testing.

Its a pretty reasonable assessment and you don't get to much debate about the outcomes. The 991.2 GTS is placed 6th a result thats very hard to ignore.

I agree with these ratings and would also love to have a 997 GTS. The driver 'feel' is much smaller and tighter in the 997 than in the 991-arguably more Porsche like.. I like my 991.1 GTS a lot but I do miss the drive of a 997. I think the gear change they are referring to is the snick snick of a 6 spd box as compared with the 7 spd in the newer cars.

What are the confounding variables? Were all MT?
