Purchased a used MY2017 .2 991 S Coupe from CarMax...& happy I did!
Part 1:
There was recently a thread on this forum
on selling your 991 to CarMax. Well, this
is the other side of that coin - buying your
991 from CarMax! If you are familiar with
my threads, you know I don't like Morse
Code nor twitter-like minimalist musings.
My purpose with postings is to share my
personal experiences in carefully worded
paragraphs that might be useful to other
readers here at Rennlist!
But for those that can't wait for the 'bottom
line', here it is:
On August 29th, 2017 I purchased a MY2017
.2 991 S coupe with 1944 miles & in-service
warranty date of Feb 29th, 2017. 'Rhodium
Silver' with 'Black/Bordeaux Red' full leather
interior. Manual, Sport Package, Sport Pasm,
Sunroof, Bose, Wheels in High-Gloss Black,
Premium Package (14 Ways), Lane Change
Assist, etc. MSRP was $131,605.
The CarMax sale price was $104,998.
I will post additional information as to how I
decided to purchase this particular vehicle as
time permit.

Great looking car, Eduardo! That Black/Bordeaux looks like they really nailed that combo.
I just got back from a leisurely 55 mile drive (just passed 500 miles, trying to get through the break in well before winter) and I must say how much I like the size/feel of the GT steering wheel. It has a great feel in the hands.
And a MT. Perfect.
The low RPM torque on these .2 engines is wonderful IMO.
Congrats!

Congrats on the find! Nicely optioned, love the two tone interior and the leather trim...looks very premium and unique.
Unfortunately previous owner had drilled plate...looks like you are in AZ where you don't need one. But you probably got a great deal from carmax to forget about that.

Thank you gents for the kind words about this
particular purchase. I even received a message
in Morse Code!
Part 2
I sold my 2015 PTS 'Signal Green' .1 991 gt3
three weeks ago to Porsche of Colorado Springs.
https://colorado-springs.porschedeal...allic+1414409?
I owned that car from new in May 2015. And it
was quite a story how we found & traced all of
these late production MY2015 PTS .1 991 gt3s:
https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...grey-gt3s.html
But I only drove it 1094 miles in all the two years
that I had it. I described my experience with this
car as follows:
"The 991 gt3 is unquestionably THE best/most
capable Porsche I have ever owned & (also) that
I have LEAST enjoyed driving in normal roads &
in daily driving activities! (And) PDK did not help!!!"
In the end, the PDK was not the optimal transmission
for me. It would have been if the gt3 was primarily
a track car. But in my case, it wasn't it & PDK Sport
(as technically superior as it might be) was not the
right fit for my needs & wants!

My daily driver is an 2016 Audi RS7, which now has
nearly 19K miles which I have put on it since Feb
2016. I have a 1973 914 2.0 & a 1970 911E Targa,
but those are occasional use vehicles for me. So I
do need a sportier car that will share daily driving
duties with my RS7...to share the mileage load &
to enjoy.
So I almost immediately started looking at another
991. But I needed a manual & that created a bit of
a dilemma. Dealers tell you that manual is the kiss
of death at resale. Most Porsche dealers will not order
a manual for spec inventory. Even if you can get a
decent discount on a new custom order, I anticipated
a very steep depreciation curve if I went ahead with
an order. So for the hell of it & with cash from the
sale of my 991 gt3 burning a hole in my pocket, I
decided to look at used 991s to see what was available.
But first, I had to decide if I was going to go with a
.1 or a .2 991. In recent years I have owned a 2007
.1 997 & a .2 987 Boxster Spyder. Both were manuals.
And my .1 991 gt3 was a PDK. So I decided to give
consideration to .2 991 manual, even if it had the
new 'controversial' 3.0 turbocharged engines. In
that final analysis, I was greatly influenced by the
postings of my friend & fellow Rennlister Pete Stout.
He has been a voice of reason in discussions here
in this forum re: the new .2 991 models. And I value
his automotive judgement from years of following
his writings at Excellence, then PCA's Panorama &
now 000 Magazine! And Pete, as you all know, is
very impressed with the .2 991, especially the base
model!
And early in the evening of Aug 9th, I actually
offered $94K to Porsche of Bellevue for a base
2017 'Lava Orange' cabriolet they originally listed
for $104K, then reduced by $2K to $102K:
It had Sport Chrono & Sport Exhaust...but NOT
a full leather interior! They refused my offer &
I quickly moved on since it was not the optimal
spec for me anyway. Bellevue eventually reduced
the car to $99K & it finally sold last week!
But that was the summary of what was on my
mind on August 9th at around 8 PM when I saw
the ad for this .2 991S coupe at CarMax! To be
continued...
