What Does It Say That Porsche Chose a 911S For 911 Number One Million?
I presume that most of you have seen the photos and articles about 911 number one million which the company built for itself. It is a 911S coupe in PTS Irish Green with the houndstooth interior. No GTS, no 4S, etc., just a classic looking 911. What the factory does with these special cars is put the optional polished trim around the windows which very few owners do. (Personally, I like it a lot.) They also use the 911 emblem on the rear of the car.
To me it demonstrates that the company likes the classic look of a 911 which is best shown on a 911S.

"Likes" versus "considers a basic S as most representative of ALL 911s over decades"?
I agree with the premise of what you're saying, but not the motive as you state it.
Same thought applies to the model designation delete .... It's meant to represent ALL 911s, hence just the "911" logo.

This.
It's a base model because it's one millionth, I thought it was a really nice touch, shows they value all 911's not just the super rare limited edition cars.

In Zuffenhausen today, the one-millionth model rolled off the production line – a Carrera S in the special colour “Irish Green”, with numerous exclusive features following the original 911 from 1963.

What does it say that in the latest Porsche magazine (Christophorus) they have a multipage spread on the red Targa 4 GTS which was number 999,999 off the production line?
Besides it is all marketing really. As a member of the Early S Registry, I can tell you that there is sufficient ambiguity in the early 911 production numbers that picking which car was 1,000,000 is just an informed guess.
