Default AAA for new battery - excellent and great price

I was cleaning my car and when I got done my car wouldn't start. It's a base 2012 991 and out of warranty and all indications were a bad battery. Called AAA for a battery service and the guy came and he had never worked on a 911. I had removed the cover so he checked the battery and it was bad. He had a replacement with him so we together figured out how to remove the battery. He put a tender on it while the battery was out to be sure I didn't lose any settings. The battery that was called for was larger but fit quite easily. Battery has 3 year replacement warranty and 6 year prorated warranty. Cost including tax was $170. I had asked the dealer a few weeks ago about a battery and it was nearly $400 plus installation. Just put it out there for you guys to consider.

Sounds like a wet cell and not a sealed AGM.

Just an FYI - part of the dealer battery service (on most newer cars) is changing the ECU programming so it knows it has a new battery, not a 6 year old one. You may be fine but I've read without this the new battery can be overcharged.

Shoot didn't know this. BMW does this too, it's an "intelligent battery sensor" reset. Else as you said the new battery gets overcharged which lowers its life expectancy, likely eliminating any and all 3rd party or DIY savings.
If this isn't monopolizing maintenance I don't know what is, scumbags!

Who cares if you wear the battery out sooner? It's dirt cheap and has a warranty. The OEM Porsche Banner battery is a POS that doesn't last long anyway.

Cheers,
NF.

I have gone through this with a E93. Dealers & indys wanted in the neighborhood of $400 for battery replacement; approved AGM batteries only fetched in the low 200-s in stores. Got a Chinese USB-DCAN dongle off Amazon and a piece of free software and did the registration myself. Forums were full of scare stories about driving with an unregistered battery for extended periods of time...

I take it, there's no such shortcut with Porsches out there, have to use brand-name diagnostic tools?
