Big, wide, sticky tires in the back pick up all kinds of road shrapnel. And it never fails that it's in a spot not recommended to plug.

I am a new guy to the 991 so please forgive my lack of knowledge. I was led to believe that once one of these tyres was punctured, that was it -no repair possible on safety grounds? Hopefully not?

Many have driven countless miles on properly plugged tires; however, replacing a tire is what some, such as a dealer, will always say.

depends on where the puncture is and how the car is used

there is a safety zone where tires can be plugged, if puncture is in the middle of tire, you can plug it

if puncture is too close to the edge of tire, you need new tire

if you are tracking the car, you need a new tire

I called roadside assistance and got a flatbed to take the car to the dealer. Given that I had to drive the car about 50 feet to get it on the flat bed, I suspect the tire is toast (if it wasn't already).

I guess I should feel lucky that the dealer talked me into the wheel and tire insurance.

Have others had many flats with the Pirelli P Zero tires? This is my first flat in 30 years, but most of those years were on Michelin Pilot Sports.

Sorry to hear that, do you regret getting the center lock wheels?

P Zeros, in my experience, are not sturdy Tires. I had to replace 3 on my 2016 S3 within one year. 1 for a nail and 2 for bubbles that started to appear on the sidewalls. Also changed 2 on my 2013 RS5 because of nails.

Granted the ****ty Montreal roads full of potholes didn't help, but I think I'll try the Michelins on my next sports car.

This does not cause me to regret center locks. The 5 bolt wheel cars don't come with a spare, so this flat would have required a tow regardless of center locks. I might have wanted the option to change out my summer wheels and tires for snow wheels and tires which is significantly more difficult with center locks. However, instead, I will just drive my wife's Audi RS3 on which I do change out the summer wheels and tires for the snows.

As a suggestion... I skipped wheel/tire insurance when taking delivery at the dealer last weekend. Drove down the road and purchased a road hazard warranty for the tires only at Discount Tire for $200. All they had to do was verify that they sell the tire, and that they were new.

I flew to Dallas last September (Labor Day weekend) to pick up my car and drive it back to the bay area. On the way back (somewhere in Nevada) I noticed my tire pressure was dropping on my right rear. Filed it up and it slowly went down again. Luckily I was able to find a tire shop that was open. Asked if they had any 285's in stock and they laughed at me. No one else was open and I would have had to wait till Tuesday (its was Sunday) for a new one. Luckily they were able to patch it. I'm still driving on that same tire 6k miles later. Close one....

Tire Rack includes 2 years of free road hazard for the Michelin 4S or PS2 that fit my car. It is not offered for Pirelli

Meh. I put a new set of Pilots Sports on my Wife's Audi SQ5 and within 40 miles a metal shard killed one of them. It happens.
