True but sometimes people tempt fate. I was stuck in an interstate backup a couple weeks ago. I saw a few drivers drive to the service lane which was car free. The only problem was that the service lane had lots of debris, including broken glass. I would use that lane in an emergency but not to save 10 - 15 minutes when the traffic is backed up. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the cars that used the service lane, eventually got flat tires.

You're right. Need to avoid areas on roads with debris. That's where most of the road hazards are. Also, most nails and screws will be in rear tires because the front tire runs over them and flips them up and they then get stuck in rear tire as it passes over.

I'm on my fourth rear right flat (the common one) in 6000 miles. 2 replacements and 2 patches... Ok in fairness the first replacement could have been patched but I wanted new tires... It's so bad that when I see a contractor's truck I drive on the opposite lane ;-) I've considered buying the machines to mount and balance the tire. The tech told me the balancer was around $1200... Tempting at this pace, works on all the cars too!

can't beat my fro's 718, he picked up a nail 5 mins after taking delivery. That was like 3km of driving at most. Tire was replaced for free under tire insurance policy though.

When I picked up my GTS in May 2015, tire and wheel insurance was not an option. The dealership refused me for 3 months thereafter. By that time the GTS was no longer eligible. I have told the dealership that I will never buy another car from them though I bought 6 previously. It did not bother them.

Short term happy ending. Tire replaced, car washed, wheel and tire protection policy honored, no charge.

If I do get another flat in the near future, I will take it as a sign that a higher power wants me to switch to MPS4S.

On one of my Porsches I got a nail in my left rear at 600 miles and then in my right rear at 950 miles. Pain in the butt.

Ride that tire and wheel warranty down to the bone! Don't swap tires if you paid to insure them.

I was questioning if flats are a fact of life with 911’s, then I found all the threads. I’ve had two highway flats over the last 2 1/2 months. Both rear passenger. GTS has 3K miles and Michelin winter perf tires. It’s a PITA, hours waiting for PRA, potential flatbed damage and trying to get back home. Now I don’t want to drive more than a few minutes from home.

I had numerous flats where I lived previously (before I had the Porsche in an area of DC where there was a lot of construction). Since moving from there and having my GTS, I've had none over 3 years of ownership (12k miles) on both Pirelli and Michelin Alpins, with the Perellis doing the bulk of the driving. Has more to do with your surroundings than anything.

You have to be kidding that you think brand of tire makes a difference. It's just luck or bad luck.

Previous 981 and 991..... P zeros ...no flats. Current 991.2... Michelin's Pilot Sports 4S. 3000 miles, 2 flats so far.

According to this logic I guess I should say "Never buying Michelin's, only Pirelli's for me"

Why the rear right so common?
