X51 kit - 991.2S - Suncoast

Suncoast, thanks for getting back to me promptly in regard to the X51 kit.

The key points are:

(1) Two new turbochargers (as per GTS spec)
(2) Brake cooling ducts
(3) Carbon fibre - X51 Powerkit engine cover
(4) Engine remapped to account for upgrades (seamless integration - engine - PDK - PTV-E)
(5) Porsche official kit
(6) Porsche factory backed warranty
(8) For 991.2 S with Sports Chrono and Performance Sports Chrono
(9) Increases torque from 00Nm to 550Nm across the whole curve
(10) as a consequence of (9) increase in power of 30HP across the curve - peak horse power 450HP

Price ~ $7,500 - if you own a 991.2 S - its a bargain :)

Comparative wheel horsepower curves for GTS/X51 and GT3 (Sport Auto - MAHA dyno).

Power Under the Curve
The first figures (highlighted in blue) represent the engine HP calculated from the torque curve in the range 4000rpm to redline. The second figure (in red) is a spot value of HP calculated from the torque curve at 4000rpm.

991.2GTS/X51 408HP (4000-7500rpm) and 308HP @ 4000rpm - the power increase is available across the whole torque curve.
991.2S 375HP (4000-7500) and 282HP @ 4000rpm

991.1GTS/X51 342HP (4000-7700rpm) and 217HP @ 4000rpm - the NA X51 power kit in the 991.1 made a small difference because the kit only increased peak HP over a very narrow rpm range and had little impact on the majority of the torque curve - thus power gains under the curve were small over a pull.
991.1S 338HP (4000-7700) and 213HP @ 4000rpm

991.1GT3RS 387HP (4000-8700rpm) and 199HP @ 4000rpm - compare with .2X51 - note these calculations are relative to crank - if losses are are viewed at the wheel the difference is larger between the .2GTS/SX51 and .1RS/GT3
991.1GT3 365HP (4000-9000) and 185HP @ 4000rpm

Theoretical Lag
Figures as measured 991.2 S from fully closed throttle:

1800RPM ~ 3s
2000RPM ~ 2s
2300RPM ~ 1s
2600RPM ~ 0.5s
2900RPM ~ 0.3s

NA 0.3s to 0.2s

Real World - Lag minimised by boost holding technology

Should we jump right into how crummy the GIAC tune is now?

mikex25 07-17-2017 10:40 PM

That thread got derailed fast. Lets act civilized boys and keep this thread strictly regarding the power kit.

In all those pages did anyone figure out an estimated cost? This a lot cheaper than trading in my C2S and upgrading to a GTS.

randr 07-17-2017 10:57 PM

add 4 hours of labour to $7,500.

jlee504 07-17-2017 11:00 PM

Really? They charged me 8 hrs of labor for pads and rotors. I can't imagine this kit is 4 hrs unless Porsche told them it was 4 hrs. For that it could be a done deal..

^^^^^ If you get a chance, have a look at yours when its on a lift.

You will see the turbos are readily accessible - its a pretty simple matter to swap them out. A lot less messing round than - 4 wheels, 4 brake rotors, 4 sets of pads, and two people to do brake fluid and bleed.

I've had a verbal that "it looks like a mornings work, pretty simple" but that needs to be confirmed. I am waiting on email returns from the US and OZ. I'll let you know as soon as I have something concrete.

Hopefully I can square it away in OZ.. Importantly there will still be plenty of headroom (which I won't be tapping), implcit in which is long term reliability.

Thank you for creating a new thread. We're hoping this one will stay on track.

If you're looking for a FACTORY! Porsche retrofit for the X51 PowerKit with upgraded FACTORY! hardware along with a FACTORY! warranty then this is upgrade for you. We're not blinded by the fact that aftermarket ECU tunes provide big power increases for a relatively inexpensive entry price, but in the event that you have a hardware failure the chances of Porsche honoring the warranty are very slim. This is a great upgrade for a boost in power with the piece of mind of having your FACTORY! warranty remain intact.

Shoot us a PM if you have any questions or give us a call to chat :)

Suncoast - I PM'd the details you requested :)

Considering the same engine block across the 991.2 models, what is the deal in not being able to apply the X51 upgrade to the base model?

Between the base and S the only difference is the size of the propellers inside the turbos and the ECU programming, according to various internet sources. Guys from suncoast could chip in more info in that regard.

Also, why not only a turbo swap with ECU retune?

how capable turbo motors are Porsche knows if they allowed it for the base it would cut into sales of S and GTS. It's all about money and selling cars.

Honestly take off S turbos would be a nice upgrade to a base (with an ECU flash to stock S configuration of course). Someone needs to figure that out.

I'm located right in Sarasota so would come to Suncoast for the install. Few questions:
What labor charge would the Suncoast service dept quote for the install?
Suncoast is listed as a certified GIAC installer; if the service dept does the GIAC tune, do they instantly flag Porsche NA that the car is modded?

randr 07-19-2017 05:37 AM

Couple of updates -

(1) the labour estimate is 12-14 hours - confirmed
(2) cars with RAS already have the brake cooling ducts
(3) cars with PCCB already have the brake cooling ducts
(4) the installer has to be given access and verification codes from Porsche Germany to complete the remap - must be installed by Porsche authorised company/people with the right equipment
(5) In my case this means I have to source the kit from Porsche in my home country.
(6) For owners in the US you are good to go with Suncoast (they have been very helpful).
