If you're going to buying in 18 months (or so), I would seriously look at the 812, esp. if you're already considering the DB11.

Between the DB11 and 812, I'd rather have the Ferrari.

Those care are not really in the same price league.. Also, if you don't have a history of buying Ferraris (at least in North America) I doubt he can get a 812.

an old f12 is more than a new db11 here in Canada.

But OP is also considering an Aventador. Which is easily a $400k car in the U.S, even used.

My budget will be around 300k. The 812 is amazing, but probably a bit too $ even used in 18 months.

What do you want to do with it? For example:
- Weekend / track oriented
- Weekend / street oriented
- Primarily track like a Radical / Atom / Cup or race car
- Wow factor, something that gets your pulse going or makes you grin when you look in the garage

How much do you care for the subjective criteria such as sound and emotion vs. more practical considerations like performance or value retention? And are not-as-new cars like the CGT on the radar?

All good questions. I am not planning on tracking/racing. I actually don't care what other people think. I love the design, tech, sound and emotion of these cars. I do want to smile every time I look at it. This will be for me. I will keep it for at least 4-5 years, so resale is important but not a deal breaker. I would like to know more about cost of ownership and reliability between Ferrari, Mclaren, AM and Lamborghini

You'd be hard pressed to find a nice used Aventador for around 300k. You could, but it might take some real effort.

For 300k, my first choice would be the F12.

I drove a DB11- looks futuristic, but I found it to be very slow. Not sure what the stats are, it was making a lot of sound and not much go. Not in the same league or class as the Ferraris or Lambos.

Is there a significant difference for insurance rates or maintenance costs between any of these cars? Not a deal breaker, but a factor none the less. Thanks again for all of the feedback!

Ferrari 488. Great looks, just stunning. All of the cars have amazing performance so the differences are slight in regard to numbers. You aren't going to feel a tenth of a second in your driving but you are going to feel the thrill every time you are behind the wheel. So pick the car that will give you the most gratification to own.

Cost of ownership is best with Ferrari, especially if you count resale/depreciation. Ferraris hold their value better than the others you mention. Maintenance is also very good with the modern Ferraris (458, 488, F12, 812). F12/812 are very fast and handle well for front engine cars, but are almost too smooth. 458 makes better noise but 488 is faster.

If you really want driving involvement, get a stick, but you'd have to go back a ways to a 430 or 360 (but good luck finding a stick version), which involve more maintenance, but likely less depreciation.

Or, get the "special" versions of the modern cars (458 Speciale for example), as they are slightly less civilized in favor of lighter weight and more performance.

Dunno about insurance rates as that will vary upon individual characteristics (like driving history, credit history, location, age, ins. co., etc.).

But Ferrari does offer a 7 year free maintenance plan, so it will probably be less expensive than a McLaren or a Lambo.

Although keep in mind, the service (not sure if that is included in your use of "maintenance") for the McLaren will probably be higher than a Lambo and Ferrari, as McLarens have and continue to attract electronic gremlins like flies on fecal matter.

Having just come out of a Huracan Lp610 I have just ordered a turbo s cab as I found it unusable so perhaps I'm a bit biased towards Porsche right now.

If it was a third car in the garage, the 720 is quite possibly the most beautiful car on the planet right now. I'd defo go ***** out with a lairy colour too.

It's a lovely decision for you too have to make btw 👏🏼
