Front axle lift system needed?

Is the front axle lift needed on a 991.2 Turbo S for typical daily driver use -- parking lot speed bumps, driveways, etc.?

Does adding the Aero kit increase the need for the axle lift system?

I would recommend getting it, but I admit I don't use mine often.

I have a 991.2 Turbo S with both the Aero kit and the lift kit. I also lowered mine ~0.5" with a GMG spring kit, so have even slightly less clearance.

We have speed bumps in our neighborhood. No issue clearing them without spoiler extended. When I have spoiler extended, I use lift - but think it may barely clear without it.

Lift has come in very handy on some steep driveways/entrances. I like to drive with spoiler extended once outside of our neighborhood and find there are some streets where I use the lift if there are areas of large unevenness.

If you plan to drop your suspension, I would. Otherwise, it's a nice thing to have but far from necessary (unlike on a GT3)

Thanks, I'll probably get it. Anyone know how a 991.2TT compares to a GT4 in terms of clearing driveways, etc.? I have a friend with a stock GT4 and he has a pretty hard time with my driveway....

I had a GT4 before this one. The TT is an absolute breeze in comparison. I would routinely scrape the GT4 - never once in the TT.

Even with the front spoiler deployed, it's easier.

If you don't lower it then you don't need it. I have never scraped the front. Sometimes I go down a ramp so steep.it sets of the parking sensors but it still doesn't scrape. And I normally scrape the front on every car I own but never this one. This car has a lot of ground clearance with spoiler retracted.

GT4 is very different. GT cars are super low and have fixed low spoilers. The advantage of our retracting front spoiler and higher ride height is that we don't need to worry about it.

Oh. and aerokit makes no difference to clearance of front.

+1 to what rk-d said!

I have a .1 and have not lowered my ride height and I don't feel like I'm missing anything by the fact that my car doesn't have a lift kit.

I used it all the time on euro delivery with the 991.2 turbo S with aerokit. I'm going to lower with eibachs as soon as the car arrives from Germany and then I'll really be happy to have it.

sctanton52 06-22-2017 06:00 PM

I have it on my 991.2 TTS. I have only used it a few times when the driveway looked a bit steepish. I do not extend the spoilers for city driving, nor do I have a lowered suspension, or the AeroKit. I am in nice to have, but not required camp. Unless, as noted above, you lower the car from stock.

Back from the dead!

I'm placing an order for a '19 Turbo S next week and I'm stuck on whether to order this FAL option. I've read this thread and comments on others and it seems like it's more of a comforting thing to have but not a necessary. I do have a steep driveway entrance where my much lower Viper front spoiler scrapes a little regardless of approach angle but I suspect the 991 will be just fine. And my driveway is the only place I ever scrape. I'm too far from a dealer to bring a car here to try.

I'd like to save the weight and free up more spring options to adjust ride height for track use maybe in the future, and save the $2900 Cdn cost if it isn't needed. So I'm looking for input from those that have actually needed it, and also from those that needed it and didn't have or deploy it. Will a light scrap or scuff cause damage or will it flex out of the way and only suffer cosmetic damage?

And if any kind soul just happens to live anywhere close to Cannington, Ontario, 45 min north of the 401 at Oshawa, I'd really like to buy you dinner! And if you're a track rat that runs Mosport I'd love to hear from you as well!

Thanks in advance,

Bruce

Well I ended up getting it on mine and have had fun watching it go up and down, but I've yet to find anything that actually needs the lift -- speed bumps and driveways clear no problem for me at stock height on my '18. Gives me peace of mind to have it though -- for that day when I finally come across a mega-speed bump or whatever.

NVRANUF 11-10-2018 12:31 PM

Did not have it on my 991.2 TTS and never encountered any situations that I needed it.
I do have it on my 991.2 GT3 Touring and use it on a regular basis.

My experience; same your money on a TTS, unless you have unusual circumstances dictating a need.

Thanks guys, that's great feedback. Unless I hear otherwise I'll leave it out. Thanks again.
