Cabrio a quieter cabin than coupe?
My current '13 C2S seems quite noisy from tires. Rough pavement is almost embarrassing.
Being interested in a new Carrera, I did step out of my economic comfort zone and tried a Turbo. It was a Cabrio with 1,600 miles and seemed to be a whole level quieter and much more solid feeling than my C2S.
Then the sales guy took me out in an 'S' Cabrio with less than 2,000 miles. It, too, was markedly quieter with road noise than my C2S.
At another dealership, I tried a nearly brand new Turbo with 700 miles and, again, it felt like a solid billet of a car being quiet over rough roads.
Thinking about this rather unique aspect, as most Cabrios imply weaker bodies in twisting, I'm beginning to convince myself that the fabric top, which has few attachment points to the lower body, dampens road noises, while the full monocoque coupe amplifies road noise through the all-metal top.
Am I up in the clouds here, or have any of you found this to be true, also? I know the turbos out weigh the Carreras by about 350 lb, but I'm pretty sure it's not because of added insulation.

Not that this is a relevant comparison, but my 991 cabriolet and my 997 cabriolet are much quieter than my 996 coupe was.

The issue is probably the age of your tires. Pirelli tires, especially older ones are very noisy. The new Pirellis actually have some sound deadening material in them to make them quieter.

My 2017 TTS Cabrio is very quiet inside, with either the summer Pirelli or the winter Mich.
Was told when picking up the car at the factory that the Cabrio top has a full titanium panel under the cloth top and was fully insulated.

From Road & Track:
The new CTS system combines the best of both metal folding and canvas roofs. It is comprised of three folding magnesium panels set in an aluminum frame, over which the cloth roof is stretched. Unlike conventional cloth roofs this retains the profile of the fixed head coupe, while it is padded on the underside for additional insulation and saving 2.6 lbs.
