"Mirror tap" for your radar...

Hi guys,

Hope this helps-

I got to the bottom of the wiring issue. you can't tap power via the mirror, but you can tap power up in the overhead light. you have to pop out the dome light assembly, and inside there is a yellow 3 pin molex connector with a blue (hot), pink, and brown (ground) wire on one side. inserting into that molex provides switched hot power.

Thanks for your pictures. I just did this to a 991.2 GT3. The mirror tap took less than 15 minutes.

Mine did not have a yellow molex connector, but it had a blue one along the right side of the homelink/interior light console. Mine was blue, red and brown. Again, blue is hot and brown is ground.

This is super helpful. Thank you!

great post man! thanks!

but I do have a question and it seems I cannot find the answer. Can I tap the mirror or overhead light for both my blackvue camera and a radar? or is it too much?

My BlackVue is hardwired into the fuse box, since it’s running with the Power Magic Pro. Hope this helps.

I found the blue molex, the blue wire, brown wire, and a yellow wire.

When I tap into the blue wire with the Red connector and then brown wire with the black connector, I don’t get any power. If I connect the red with the yellow wire I get power, but I don’t think it’s “switched” because the radar detector won’t turn off.

Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

Hum. Dont know why yours dont work. I conn mine red power to blue and blk neg to brown. Turned the key to on then powered up my unit. Works perfect. Turn off car and the unit powers off. Make sure you push the pins as far as they can go ok. Maybe that was the issue.

I decided that it was worth it to risk breaking the trim piece for the overhead light assembly in order to get it off. Once I had it off the Yellow Molex connector that Boosted TTS described was right there in plain view. 15 seconds later I was connected and it's working exactly as I had hoped.

Now to get it all back together!

Thanks!

Glad it's working. If u go to auto zone they have the plastic piece needed to remove the panels etc.they use these for stereos. This way there will be no damage. I think it cost me 10.00 andc5 seconds to pull down the light fixture

So while routing the cable and putting it all back together I managed to break the stupid yellow Molex connector.

Of course it isn't a part that anybody carries in stock. In fact, it's a Mercedes part. Local MB dealer says there are only 2 in the country ($2.50 each), so I've had him get both of them just in case I screw up the 1st one.

Unbelievable...
