Best national dealers to buy from?
 

As I just posted, I'm seeking to order a new Turbo S. Any tips on who are the best national dealers to deal with, and whom to talk to there? (For example, on the Corvette forum, where I've been for years, there are several nationally known dealers whose record and experiences are well known, and who are known to be safe and fair to deal with when ordering or buying via long distance.) All help appreciated!

why only national dealers?

I think he's asking for good dealers across the nation... you think he should check internationally too? :cool:

Bought a 16' TT and '17 TTS (incoming) from Porsche Chattanooga. CA is Jon Lancaster. They are a rock solid operation.

He is also looking to see if they offer any "good" discounts in addition. Are there any dealers known to offer a "good" discount in conjunction with being a top notch operation?
The Corvette forum is very good in this way when I purchased a 2016 Corvette for my friend. They can offer the approximate discount as well as reputation.
He is hoping that Porsche would able to replicate something similar.
My experience is that you will usually find a better deal near the end of the years cycle and between 6%-8% can be had for cars that are starting to move slower. If the car is in higher demand it could be very little or likely no discount. Each dealer decides if they want to sale a car to you at a discount or not. No kickbacks or hold backs that I am aware of in the recent past years.
It is up to you to shop the dealer and work the best offer you can in most instances.

The "best" is a pretty subjective measure.

There are a lot of good sales people around the country who know their product and serve their clients well.

There isn't a huge percentage from what the dealer pays PCNA to the MSRP. There is the same % markup in all the cars no matter who the dealer. Porsche does not do anything in the way of incentive money or conquest money or anything beyond invoice for the dealers.

All the dealers in any particular area are all going to be very close in price on the same car. There are not a load of 17 TTS's Coupes sitting on the ground at a dealer. Last I checked there were a grand total of 14 coupes around the country at dealers.

If you have a standing long relationship with a dealer who you have purchased a number of cars from they'll probably give you a bit better deal. If you're expecting them to fight over your business with steeper and steeper discounts, I don't think that will happen. There simply aren't a load of cars around.

On a $200,000 car is it really important if you save a grand or so by buying one hundreds of miles away or thousands ? If you buy a car hundreds of miles from your area, you're not going to service it at the dealer you bought it from. Its not like one dealer is going to sell the car for 2% off and the other for 8% off. Especially if they have to try and pry the car out of a third dealers hands in a dealer trade.

Now if a distant dealer has the exact car you want, then maybe you could make a case for calling them directly.

Out of curiosity what do you think is a fair price on a 17 TTS with an MSRP of $200k ????

Beachwood Porsche was great to deal with. I got 6% of MSRP on my 2017 TTS and they delivered it to Michigan from Ohio as part of the deal.

Many thanks to all those who provided guidance to me on the forum. After talking numbers with several dealers, I wound up making a deal yesterday to buy from the large dealer who's located 10 minutes and less than five miles from my home. It may not have been the best deal possible, but it was within the kinds of ranges folks on the forum were reporting (so I know it's reasonable), I've heard good things about the dealership from others, I really liked the salesman who trusted me on two test drives at speed, and it's hard to ignore the convenience factor especially given my busy schedule.

Congrats on the purchase. Where are the pictures?

The only pics I have are from the virtual build from the Porsche website. I love looking at them, but they're not the real thing. (I also have a build sheet from the dealer showing the options, and my PDF from the website build.)

7% is pretty easy to get. Try South Bay Porsche in So Cal...
