If you are worried about heat soak, you need to check out this semi-famous R&T 991TTS review:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...-65-7-roa0314/

It's the one where they launched the car 50+ times back to back to back. No wait for cool down, no "limp mode"; just immediately launched it again and again. 50th was as strong as the first. [One of my favorite test notes in recent memory is in this review: "Watching a 2.6-second launch from outside the car is surreal. You see what looks like one full revolution of each wheel, and then it's just gone."]

I did the following:

ByDesign Intercoolers
Cobb AP3 with new Stage 3 tune for intercoolers
Fabspeed headers and exhaust
BMC intake
IPD Plenum

Haven't dyno'd the car, and I don't race. All my cars are street driven only and I mod them so I can simply have more fun in the streets.

Biggest difference was the tune, when going form stock to Stage 2! Going from Stage 2 to Stage 3 (Intercooler upgrade) made a difference, but not in the lower end, only at higher speeds, and only at the point where the stock intercoolers would have been warmer. It was $$$ and unless tracking the car, not at all worth the upgrade. I don't regularly run 80 MPH and up WOT's, which is where this mod makes the difference.

Going from stock tune no mods to stage 2 (exhaust/ intake and tune) was huge. Much like adding a small blower to a non-blower car. That was the biggest single difference Nick. As usual, the 1st 10K posted the biggest gain, the next 10k was an ROI of peanuts and just more for winning pissing contests...LOL

I hear you but I bet your turbos are very grateful that your IATs are down

This is accurate. The stock intercoolers are very adequate for stock power. But if you turn up the boost with a tune they are no longer adequate to cool the IATs sufficiently.

Please educate a newby. If I go to stage 2, do I "have to" upgrade the intercooler?

I have heard that all P TT's after 200k (124 m) have lost the rear jump seats, gotten smaller inside and due to heat soak no faster than a Pinto.

The best place in town for new car retrofits is Premier Sportscar Service in Las Vegas. premiersportscarservice.com. Located on the other side of I-15 from Mandalaybay Casino. He installed the exhaust and ECU upgrade on my last turbo. No lights not problems no overheating. Trouble free. No mods done to my 2014 Turbo. It has enough power for me. He has lots of experience , small shop and the owner Kent Moore does most of the work himself. Check out his web site. He was the head mechanics for the defect Porsche race team in Las Vegas that one the 24 Hours of LeMans. He as access to exhaust upgrades and ECU upgrades from his Porsche factory contacts in Germany. He buys direct from the manufactures that supply Porsche with the OE hardware and software. Thus he as access to proven anon OE hardware and software upgrades designed and tested by the same companies that supply the OE manufacturer. Great shop. He also has lots of GT3 cars that he maintains for racers and he has a large car carrier trailer that he uses to haul race cars to the track since he provide support. Very honest and goes a great job. Work number 702-553-8996. Address5325 Polaris Ave, Suite 500, Las Vegas, NV 89118. Email address kmrace1@aol.com. I encourage you to call and drop buy his shop and take to him and make your own evaluation on his capability and discuss what you want to do. He is very honest and if he thinks you are wasting money he will tell you. Mention my name Jay Healey. If this is your first Porsche I suggest you join the PCA. We have a local chapter that meets once month for breakfast on Sunday at the Red Rock Country club. You can find us on the web in Las Vegas. Great car you will love it. Have owned a Turbo since 2001. Once you have one a normal car will not due it. The launch control is also fun.

Both the GIAC Stage 2 and Cobb/ByDesign stage 2 do not require upgraded intercoolers. They do require either high flow cats or catless exhaust. They are both a massive jump in performance over stock or stage 1 (tune without free flow exhaust or high flow cats)

That being said I would highly recommend better upgraded intercoolers if you are already getting high flow exhaust or catless and turning up the boost. This is the GIAC Stage 2+ or Cobb/ByDesign stage 3. The stock intercoolers are tiny and very lightweight. They are designed to handle stock levels of boost -- not higher boost and the ensuing higher IATs. Not only will your tune be even stronger but your turbos will thank you thanks to lower IATs. You will feel this upgrade more at higher speeds and it makes the best numbers more repeatable by keeping best soak in check.

There are several manufacturers of upgraded intercoolers. The most expensive ones are Champion Motorsports intercoolers. I have these. They are huge and heavy. Other available ones that I know of are AWE, ByDesign and I believe Boostlogic.

sdg1871 you are on point with your calculated and insightful responses. I appreciate you choosing to go with Fabspeed exhaust in your build, and I work with Sam over ByDesign closely with a lot of big Turbo builds. Great guy and highly recommend his products and services.

If there is anything I can do or any questions I can answer please feel free to reach out.
