Trading 997.2 GT3 for 991.2 TT or TT S....maybe
Just about ready to pull the trigger on this. The '10 GT3 has been awesome and certainly does not owe me a thing. Why trade... I've had the pleasure of owning it since 2011 and well, it's simply time for a change. Hard part is dealing with a car that will depreciate out the door for a car that is worth more now then when I bought it. A lot of pals saying "you are doing what!?!? Makes me question myself a bit but I do have a GT4 as well. Keeping the GT3 over the GT4 at this point is not going to happen, don't need both. Now the problem is to "S" or not. I'm leaning to the base model as the CL's and ceramic brakes don't do a thing for me and the extra 40 horses are really not a factor for everyday use when compared to the base model, at least to my perception. Do any of you base model owners regret not picking up an "S" honestly? One can always chip if needed... Miami Blue is looking like a very nice color.

I have the weakling non-S. I feel inadequate whenever I drive it since I have only 520 bhp and the extra torque of overboost from Sport Chrono.
NOT.
No. I do not regret getting the non-S.
However, with the .2 the S is further differentiated from the non-S than it was with the .1s. The value proposition for the S is more compelling now.
But, still super-overkill for a DD.
If you don't care for the options that are standard on the S or lower cost on the S then the non-S can be had for a lot less.

The difference between the 991 GT3 and TTS is significant, but the difference between the 997 GT3 and the 991 TTS is worlds apart.
I would *highly* suggest you go drive a TT or TTS. They will seem like large grand touring cars. The 997 GT3 will in turn seem very slow but very visceral.
I needed a car I could occasionally daily, and I drove a 997.2 GT3. I thought it was much more of a track car than I wanted. I didn't even consider another 911 until a friend insisted I give the 991 another chance. I was astounded at how comfortable and quiet they had become.
I am not the target audience for the GT3. I have a separate race car as well as another manual convertible. But the 991 TTS is my favorite car in the world.
I have driven the TT and TTS back-to-back and the difference is immediately apparent between the effect of the two pedals (brake and throttle). It has though been mentioned that you cna modify the TT to act like a TTS. I love my warranty though, and won't tempt Porsche to abbreviate it with aftermarket tunes or other significant parts other than a noisier-than-stock exhaust (for now).

I had a 997.2 GT3. I sold it for a Turbo S. It is worlds apart like Visceral said. TS is so much faster, I enjoy the TS way way way more than the slow GT3 on the streets. The only thing I miss on the GT3 is the sound. The GT3 had just the right tone and loudness. The sound was perfect on the GT3. However, the Turbo S is just faster in every way including on the track. It will smoke the GT3 at the track, and pull bus lengths on it on the freeway.
I'd also get the Turbo S, no the Turbo if money is not a concern. Turbo S's also hold value better. I LOVE the ceramic brakes. The pedal feel and initial bite is awesome. For me it makes the car. Braking is one of my favorite things about the Turbo S. I wouldn't have it without it.
If you're one of the guys that is scared of track with ceramics because of cost, then don't get it. I'm not one of them. I enjoy the ceramics at the track.
As far as CL's - well I love them too. I love the way they look. Yes it's not as convenient as 5 lugs but I think they are more special.

Gotta love the beast, beautiful!
Thanks for chiming in everyone, appreciate it very much. Great to see the love for these cars! Still on the fence but making some progress... struggling yet with the "S" as the blink of an eye performance advantage value proposition. These things are mighty quick!

Decision made...
I decided on the base model turbo, reason being primarily about not wanting the ceramic brakes and CL's. Only difference in performance in stock form is just the blink of an eye. The performance of the base model is plenty enough for me....
Will decide on a color soon, leaning towards Miami Blue but I sure like CR as well which is the color of my GT4. Wouldn't mind having two CR cars for a period of time.... no sunroof, not a lot of options. Sport classic wheels in black, maybe get the seat backs painted body color aftermarket. Always liked that as an option which is no longer available.
