Would you buy a stolen recovery CPO?
 
Quick question. 2014 TTS, well optioned, 17k miles @$130K CPO'd
Now the fun part. Car had about 3k on it. Fine young lad ask to see it, 2 months and 14,000 miles later, car is recovered. It's been CPO'd and rev report looks within tolerance. Scary history, but would the price be worth it? Thanks in advance.

Who really knows what that poor car has been through. For approx $ 10-15k more you could buy a MY 14TTS with lower miles and no bad history, ex: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...m=191774956874
Don't forget when you try and sell her later it will be worth less, and harder to sell because of it's past. Look elsewhere, plenty to choose from.02 T

Yikes. TTS are all PDK right? So the DME report means very little amirite? You can't overrev PDK can you?

^^^^^^ That I don't know. I do know the thief, most likely knows nothing of the car, other than he drove the **** out of it for 2 months. If it can be revved in neutral, then the likelyhood of that occurring was probably high. Just looking for what level of discount, should be on the car from the abusive theft?
Car is very clean, other than the stolen miles.

Rev limiter keeps from over revving on acceleration. Risk in manual cars is that too low a gear is chosen and mechanically forces engine to over rev. But that shouldn't happen with PDK, as it won't let you choose too low a gear for that to happen. Still, I'd pass if no stories cars can be had for $10-15k more.

Not me but someone will. There was this 2013 458 spyder that was beautiful and the guy that owns the storage place where it was told me I could probably get it for under $200k but the owner was trying to get $240k for it. What happened? A tree fell on it when it was new and insurance fixed it at a cost of $150k, just below having to total it which would have cost the insurance company $325,000 because the car was fully optioned. Someone did buy that car but I don't know what they paid for it.

I would pass. Maybe if they chopped another $20,000 off the car I would bite

Lad drove about 230 miles a day, every day. I bet he's missing "his" car.

Agree. Make an offer and dig in. The price needs to reflect the stigma attached. A 991TT is virtually impossible to drive the crap out of anyway. Porsche driving school cars would cop a bigger flogging and they stand up fine. Also for a thief to try and flog it on the street would only draw attention which I doubt they would want.

Appreciate and agree with the responses for the most part. Very scary history, but if it can be "stolen" lawfully, leaving enough room for a possible future rebuild, it might not be that bad of a deal. Thanks for the input

Depending on the state,the history will be in the title. Not to mention in the Carfax report. For ex,in Ny it will say clear title with salvage history.
I would not touch it with a 10 feet poll.

Maybe you or I may never buy a car with a history such as this but plenty will. It's ironic how driving school cars do a "tour of duty" at the hands of so many yet most buyers are none the wiser and the cars fetch demonstrator money. When you think about it, having only the one lead foot in the car is a lot better than having countess different lead foots in the seat imo (such as the PDS cars have had lol). If the history is to be always known, then it all comes down to price really. Ultimately not everyone who desires owning a car like this has the money to pick and choose either so a saving of 10 to 15 is maybe all that is needed (from a dealers position) to get the deal over the line. Having the CPO is a big thing.

Since the 997.2 all 911 Turbos and Turbo S cars have been PDK only. So all 991 Turbos and Turbo S's are PDK only

Still I would like to see the over rev report for I would except a sales persons opinion of what is ok. If there existed a time and place for over revs to happen with a PDK transmission this would be the time. Seven thousand miles a month is a ton of mileage. That is crazy driving, what in the hell was he doing?

Further, depend's on what options the car has too. What color inside and out, full leather, Burmeister Stereo and on and on. Usually the S Turbos tend to have more options since the car is already pushing $200K and at that price for a new TTS there are no pretenders.

This is at a Porsche Dealership, if so is there a link to the Dealership and car?
