Default Sound - normal?

Hi all,

I've had my 991TT for a couple months, and there's a funny sound that I'm not sure is normal. When I take my foot off the gas, there's a kind of rattly spin-down sound from the general area of the engine. My assumption is it's the turbo fan spinning down, but I would expect more of a whir than a rattle.

Normal? Time for a visit to the dealer?

Thanks,
S

I don't get a rattle, but the exhaust does a lot of popping. I don't mean to imply that you wouldnt recognize that, but could that be it?

My exhaust pops too, but this is different. Its a rattle with a regularly decreasing frequency (starts very fast and then quickly slows down).

Popping and exhaling when decelerating but no rattle.

Popping on decelerating is normal, the rattling sound is a worry though. Maybe it is in the clutch pack..
How many Ks since new? Has it always done it or is it just something that has come in?

Less than 2K miles, think it's been doing it pretty much since the beginning. I guess I'll have to make an appointment and take it in. *sigh* second trip to the dealer in less than 2 months.

Hopefully it's just something simple...let us know how you get on. Nothing worse than having a noise in a brand new car that you know just isn't right....and worse still if you have a dealer saying they can't hear it or "it's normal". That can be frustrating.

When in doubt let the Dealer Techs analyze and determine if there is a problem.

Dealer tech claims it's normal and is a sound the turbo fan makes. I'm skeptical. Anyone aware of a normal turbo fan rattle?

Never heard of that before. The actuator dictates the positions of the variable vanes so unless there is abnormal movement there I'm not sure how they could be responsible for any noise. I guess the car is under warranty...

Nope... I don't have a rattle sound in my turbo. I'd recommend taking yours to another dealer.

Yes, very much still under warranty (just 2 months old). I guess I need to drive it and see if anything else goes wrong because both the SA and the tech said it was normal and they couldn't do anything about it. *sigh* not off to a good start with my first Porsche.

They can install a recording mic and device temporarily. Then they'll send the recording to PAG.

I had a knock/thump sound from my rear steering wheel. That's how they diagnosed the problem and requested the spare part for my turbo.

Good luck

It's the boost pop off valve. Hear it in mine.
