Default Goin2drt's 991TT Cab Journey

Well I thought I would just start my own new thread and tell folks that what to read the story and use this thread while my journey starts with my dream.

Well it all started here, my sickness of sorts. When I was young my Dad and a few buddies all ordered 1983 911SC's. they had them delivered to the East coast and drove them across country to California. It was his baby. We spent many of nights cleaning the engine with a toothbrush so he could take it to shows and what not. At that time I knew one day I would own a Porsche. He also taught me the first time I came home and said "hey Dad let's go for a ride in the Porsch" that that was not acceptable, "it's Porsche"

He went through several Porsche's. Tough times came so that one had to go and he got an older 924. That was the car I got to drive to Prom in High School, I was the man. This started to get a little better so he then got a 1976 (ish) 911 Targa if I remember correctly. Off to college I went. The Boxster then came out. I thought it was cool. My Dad and I spoke every day.

One day as I was having my daily few minute conversation with Pop's he says "son you are never going to believe me but I won a Porsche Boxster in a raffle". To not belabor all the details he won it through the PCA member raffle. He was sitting at his desk one day flipping though that months edition and saw the raffle was the day before. He decided to call the number and he won. Now he had to sell the 911 to pay for the taxes and delivery charges from Florida but he had a brand new Boxster. That was his last Porsche, he has since passed away of cancer.

A quick pic to wake you up if you are still reading.

Ok so now fast forward many years. I have always stayed close to Porsche's and love them, read about them, take photos of them. I knew however I would only be satisfied with a Turbo. I have had some fast cars throughout the years and that would only suffice. I finally have been put in a position where I could now afford my dream without being a financial idiot. Off I go on the search. I was hunting for a 2010+ or newer. It had to be PDK and a Cab.

So here it is, we go shopping for a used car and the wife and I decide to get a 2015 instead. It was almost exactly as I would have ordered it. It had to be a sign that for some crazy reason we drove 2 hours, past 4 Porsche dealers to go to the one we did and the used car we went to test drive was sold.

This forum is a great outlet to share my Porsche experience for me and will enjoy the journey.

Nice story about the fellow car guy you have in your father. I don't know how I hot the car guy gene? My dad and mom always thought of cars as appliances, point a to point b type things.

GT Silver is a great color. I love it on my TTS. Congratulations....it is a beauty!

Yesterday I got the window's tinted. I went to my go to place. I went lighter than I usually do on my other cars. I just did 35%. I think it really turned out nice and I am happy with the shade. I also installed my Passport Max2 radar detector. I used the invisicord hard wire and then this trick mount that uses 3M tape and is more low profile than the suction cups.

I took a few better pictures but the light wasn't all that good.

Same here, my parents always kept a car 10 years until it was a rust bucket. They were depression era people. My grandmother died in 1982 with a $4m estate and she drove a Ford Falcon but owned a house in Royden Oaks and on North Boulevard in West University (Houston exclusive real-estate) and was a charter member of the River Oaks Country Club. Never understood that but I did convince her to give me $6500 for a new car back when I was 20. I added another $2500 of my own and bought a slightly used 1975 Corvette in May 1976. It was for my birthday.

The green monster to the left of me was a 1971 Torino Wagon my mother drove and the second picture is my wife and oldest daughter sitting on the car in 1981 just before it had to go away because you can't have a Vette and a kid on a junior EE salary. The Yamaha RD350 in the background was sitting over there because I decided I wasn't brave enough to ride two wheels fast after a couple close calls on that thing. The Vette wasn't real fast but it was fun and I always wanted another sporty car. Didn't happen for almost 30 years when I got my new 2010 BMW 535i after I inherited what finally came to me from my grandmother through my mother and then father who lived to be 91. Turns out that estate of my grandmother's included a fair amount of LTO producing land and it's worth a whole lot more than $4m today so that is how I can afford these cars. I am living on oil money, like Jed Clampett only I was never poor like that. I did well on my own but having five kids I could only afford three year old off lease Lexus 4xx cars. Still, they were nice.

Life is a funny thing and just like the song says, what long strange trip it's been.

Thank you for sharing your story. You are very fortunate to have shared your passion for Porsche's with your father. Very cool that his passion lives on with you. The thing about Porsche's is that people either get it or they do not. Not much in between. And when we get it it is hard to explain to those who do not.
Good to hear that you held out for a turbo. Beautiful car.

I just love this car. I put another 200 miles on it this weekend just cruising around. It is so much fun to drive. I went to a couple different C&C and local car gatherings. Kind of funny the car doesn't get a single look unless it is another P car guy.

Plan on doing a full detail this weekend and then get it out and find a good spot for some really good photos. Photography is another hobby so hopefully I can get some good shots with the 7D Mark II.

Cheers for now.

Agree that the TT/TTS does not get a single look except from P car folks at C&C meets. Is it my imagination or do others notice that they are tailgated on the highway? Seems like lots of pickup truck guys and kids in beaters are like 10 feet off my bumper when I am with the flow in the right or middle lanes of the interstates. That is when I just Zen out and move to the right lane at the speed limit or a bit less to get them away from me.

Funny but my wife notices the guys will break their neck to get a look at the car but the women pay zero attention. The yellow does stick out a bit however too:-)

So I got this in the mail today. It was a very nice surprise and nice touch by Porsche.

Also I joined PCA and have gone to my first few gatherings with the local PCA region group. What great folks and looking to do more of that. Really I just can't wait for the weekends to drive the car. it is so awesome.

Also I got back into detailing now that I have this car. I used to detail my other cars but for a while it was just my DD and that sucker just goes to the car wash. I got a new DA Rupes 15 and some good chemicals.

Right now I am in the middle of a full and complete detail. Since this was a demo and I did not take deliver at 0 miles I have no idea what was previously done so I am detailing her from start to finish, top to bottom.

I will check in soon. Taking it out this weekend for a longer road trip (my first with it) so we will see how she does.

I went on Invisicord's web site and they didn't show a product for the 911. What one did you purchase?

1 x #N01PL - Micro Version Invisicords (w/Length and Fuse Options)
- Fuse Option: No Fuse
- Choose Length: 20 inches

Fair warning there is no "switched" hot wire up by the mirror in my car (vert). I have a switched hot wire in my other cars and it is sweet as the detector turns off with the key.

Only saving grace is my detector has an auto off function that in case I forget to turn it off it will shut off after 5 minutes.

Every radar detector should have that feature.
