991 Turbo S - Confusing Purchase
 

I own a 997.2 Turbo S Cab AWE Tuned Et All and have been waiting for the 991 Turbo S Cab to come out for years .....
Last month I decided to book a 991 GT3 and have a allocation for this car - main reason for purchase is change and the fact that the GT3 Redlines at 9K RPM Just like my 458 Italia..specd car 165K.
Last week my Porsche Dealer let me test drive a 991 Turbo - trying to convince me to move from a GT3 to the Turbo.
I loved the car and decided to spec a 991 Turbo S Cab - the cost with careful add ons is a whopping 215K.
Then I got to thinking that at 215K my options are for many good sports cars - I was recently offered a 600 Mile Mc Laren for 190K and can get a 2000 Mile Ferrari FF for 230 K...
Porsche has jacked up the price of the Turbo S Cab so high that it is king to affect their sales.
I most likely will move forward with the 12 cylinder Ferrari FF...

I like the FF too and have driven it several times. As hard as I try I can't get used to its styling. It looks much better in silver with the new glass roof but you can't find a used example yet. Also, if you want a convertible why an FF? If you do want a FF you may want to consider Ferrari's subsidized lease. It is a great deal and that way you can spec what you want.

Please, buy the brand new Porsche TS instead of those used cars. Just get rid of some of those crazy opitions.My TS Coupe MSRP was 196,000.00 and it has so much stuff, I can hardly figure it all out. The new TSs are very nice and you will be happy with it..

Tom Shop - Agree of the FF Lease (I have been offered this option) and this is a good way to spec the car you like BUT - If you run the numbers with used FF's with 1200 to 1500 miles 2012 Made with Ferrari 7 year warranty - selling over 100K below MSRP - the lease cannot beat these prices. Valid point on convertible but my 458 Spider justifies... not buying another convertible.

The base price for the Turbo S Cab is 193K!!! so it is impossible to keep it below 200K.

BUT what really got my attention is when I was told by a friend ' Lets see what kind of Depreciation the Turbo Cab take in one year ' - Something to ponder about...

While beauty is on the eye of the beholder, my eyes see the FF as perhaps the ugliest Ferrari of all time. That roof line looks like it came from the old BMW Z4 coupe.

These $ comparisons continue to amuse ...

And the FF has lost 100k in value in just 1500 miles / one year? No good either ...

May come down to: do you want a brand new car spec'ed as you desire or a used car as it comes for the same money ...

Todo one nice thing is you take no risk on depreciation if you lease an FF. Agree $100k+is a lot of depreciation but concern is depreciation will continue to be steep. Look at the 612's continued depreciation and the FF has more controversial styling. Also why aren't you comparing price to a Turbo S coupe if you don't want a convertible? I want to talk myself into an FF but can't seem to get there.

Wouldn't FF compare better to Panamera?

Depends on the price you can get the used FF for - I am a 1700 Mile 370K MSRP FF - for 235K and might get it for 225K.. The lease numbers don't add up when at these used car sales..and what if I like it a lot and want to keep it beyond 18 months (lease) - then the used one would be a better buy.
The FF has controversial styling agreed - but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I love Porsche's and know that I will get flamed if I criticize Porsche in this forum - but I recommend that you don't drive a FF - because if you do, a 12 cylinder 9000 Redline F car - you will have a smile from ear to ear which will be hard to wipe off your face...
The Turbo n the other hand, I did not feel much of a difference from my current 997.2 when I tried the Turbo even though this was not a S.
Please don't try a FF....

I agree the used FF would not be a spec'd car - but the Turbo will be..
If you just consider the drive - forget the color of trim or leather etc - the FF is to die for..but that is my choice and others may disagree.
And I am not afraid to predict that the Turbo S will depreciate as much as the Mc Laren and the FF - I don't see how it can hold value ..... when Mc Laren and FF cannot.
I guess the question here is that for the same amount of money, what would you prefer? A 991 Turbo S or a Ferrari FF...

I to own a 458 and a 991 turbo mine was 166. FF is a novelty and I agree it's Fugly. Looks like an AMC Gremlin on steroids. No car holds value much. Why option a GT3 to the moon. Mine has a ton on it and is 148.

FF? Ugh, I would say these are as ugly if not uglier than the Panamera, an impressive feat.
For 230k used? This wouldn't even be in the equation for me. I say keep the GT3 allocation.

I have driven the FF at 2 FNA events and agree it is terrific. One was in NYC and one in Aspen in Winter. I would get it in a light color preferably silver with new pano roof as it really softens the back.

We are talking about the four door "family Ferrari" here right? To me, I don't see that OR the GT3 as your "only" car ... Go for both!

Personally speaking, I purchase a super car like a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini primarily based on performance and to a lesser degree aesthetics. Of utmost importance is how I feel inside the car and then the thrill and excitement I derive from driving it. It is emotion, not logic that is the driving ( pardon the pun) force behind my purchasing decision. Obviously I would like to get the best price on my purchase and hopefully the vehicle I choose will not unduly depreciate relative to others, but when dealing with the heart, reason and practicality take a back seat( pardon the pun).
