Looked really good in person... even all blacked out. Curious about how the regular 9A1 engine and the turbo/GT3 version are different, though...

The new 991 GT3 engine is a completely new engine based on the regular Carrera engine but both engines don't have much in common.
The new 991 Turbo/Turbo S engine is based on the "old" 997.2 Turbo/Turbo S DI engine, they do not have any parts in common (so the new engine is completely new) but it is still based on the "old" 997.2 Turbo/Turbo DI engine design, so nothing really new here. VTG chargers are also completely new but based on old design.
Yes, the 991 Turbo and Turbo S engine are the same, no hardware difference.
Tuning a 991 Turbo engine to the Turbo S power will be difficult though: There are several control units, not only the ECU, who need to be updated with new software, also the software is encrypted (which shouldn't be a problem though). I would recommend against it because so many systems are involved, incl. PDK, the new rear axle steering and even the sound symposer gets a different programming (less loud in the Turbo, louder in the Turbo S). Also the Turbo S has air blades which provide a higher air flow in the front, just saying...
If you take all the standard options the Turbo S has and add them to the Turbo, you actually wind up with a price increase of maybe 3-4k USD for the 40 hp power upgrade. I think it is worth it.
For speed limited countries however, the Turbo should be fast enough, with Sport Chrono, the performance is very similar in the lower 100 mph speed range. DO NOT order the regular Turbo without the Sport Chrono package, it would be a huge mistake. I would also order PDCC because the setup in connection with the new rear axle steering is just amazing.
