Parking brake malfunction
I experienced a parking brake malfunction in my 991.1 TTS yesterday. It was quite hot down the hill in Denver, and I was down there running some errands. I parked in an asphalt parking lot and returned to the car about 15 minutes later. When I started the car, the brake wouldn't release and I received an error message on the multifunction display. I was eventually able to disengage the brake and re-engage it several times, but the error message wouldn't clear. Finally I turned off the ignition, and restarted the car. This cleared the error message, and the brake appears to be functioning normally now.
Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be related to the heat? The temperature was in the low to mid 90s, and the black asphalt parking lot was undoubtedly quite hot. I've never experienced anything like that before. It seems to be okay now.

Well, this happened again today. This time, I couldn’t clear the fault by restarting the car. Looks like a trip to my local dealership is in order.

On a related note, the hill start assist feature is disabled when there’s a parking brake error. As a result, the car rolls backwards when starting on a hill until the clutch engages. It was an odd feeling the first time that it happened - it made me feel like I was back in my 997 Turbo with a 6MT for a second!

I had that issue on my 991.1 GT3. Faulty sensor. Fixed under warranty.

The car is back from the dealership. This turned out to be normal wear and tear, which resulted in the parking brake being out of tolerance. This was picked up by the sensors, which triggered the warning light. Everything has been adjusted and calibrated to spec, and now it's all good.

And did the dealer replace any parts?

I just passed the 30,000 mile mark. No parts were replaced. It was only adjusted and recalibrated.

If you make it out of the dealership service department for under $300, it’s not that bad!
