Not 100% sure they will work on the 991, but this is what I have on the 996:
Porsche (996/997/986/987) Fully Mechancial Ultimate Hood Struts (rennline.com)
Porsche (996/997/986/987) Fully Mechancial Ultimate Hood Struts (rennline.com)
Warranty is 15 hours or next Tuesday, whichever comes first.

Those are kind of like the $28 ones I buy on Amazon: https://a.co/d/3DezEXL

Given the price, I'm sure YMMV, but I obviously got a good set. The reviews on Amazon are also quite good, with only a couple of negatives. Moreover, they're as cheap and easy to swap out as wiper blades, if I get 1-2 years out of them, I'm happy.

I used to be totally wrapped up with Ferrari's - wanted one really badly, an NA V12. But as time passed, and some of the maintenance horror stories became more mainstream, I found that my interest in them has waned to the point where I think they're nice to look at, but that's about it.

Received and installed the DSG paddle shifter extensions thanks to the recommendation from @B Russ .
The 991.1 versions are a different shape (and part #) than the .2. I like them a lot.

The DSG paddle extenders attach to the OEM paddles with very strong 3M tape. Installation takes just a few minutes after cleaning the stainless steel OEM paddles with the supplied alcohol pad. The paddle extenders are molded with a cavity, which is the exact shape of the OEM paddles, so there's no guessing about where to attach them to the OEM paddles. It took me less than 5 minutes.
DSG also includes extra 3M tape in case you need to remove them, and reinstall later. I'm assuming that would be done with a hair-dryer heating up the attachment area, which should gently release the adhesive. When attached to a clean surface, the adhesive is very strong.
These extenders don't "click" because you're just using the OEM paddles. The ones that do that are all new paddles that require removal of the steering wheel, some disassembly on the back the wheel, removal of the OEM paddles, and replacement with new paddles. Per someone in this thread, those have a mechanical click that the OEM paddles do not.

But from a “mechanism” standpoint your Amazon struts have *nothing* in common with the Rennline struts.
Rennline, BTW, has no plans to make their struts for 928/991/981/718. I asked. They responded. <insert middle-finger emoji>

Even if the Rennline struts were available for the 991, I could purchase 9 sets of the Amazon struts for the asking price of their struts for other 911 models. I'm also not enamored with the mechanical catch design which requires pushing hood up to release them.

They are over-the-top expensive. That’s for sure.

Is there something complicated about the way hood struts are mounted on the 928? The 991 couldn't be easier, they just pop on and off in about 5 minutes. As I said before, they're about as easy as changing wiper blades.

But, after 27 years and replacing them every 3 +/- years after year 10, it’s not only vexing but I’m closing in on your “9 sets” and that number assumes that the amazon ones aren’t worse.
We’re like @2fcknfst we don’t generally sell cars. That’s why we have 9 and time horizons measured in units of “decades.”
All that written, I’m going to order a set of the Amz ones and put them on the shelf for ‘next time.’
