Amount of oil in TTS
I change my own oil and have since I bought the car new. Every time I change it I find I need 8.5 quarts to
fill it although the manual says 7.5 quarts. Anyone see this on every oil/filter change? Car is a 15 TTS and has 23k miles, it burns no oil. |

Same deal here...I think it took me ~8.7 quarts to get one block below max (ie two blocks below overfull). That 7.5L/7.9 Quarts at max is questionable...it gets worse if you trust that with the "difference between the minimum and maximum marks on the segment display is approx. 1.7L/1.8 Quarts" statement. Don't drive your car with 6.1 Quarts kids...
BTW...from the workshop manual "Filling capacities - 991 Turbo and 991 Turbo S: Filling capacity after disassembling engine: 10.4L" (11.0 Quarts) |
I’m pretty sure it’s a function of how long you let the sump drain. Last time, I got distracted by something and the sump got to drip for 4-ish hours. Took 9 quarts.

Is there a benefit to letting it drain that much?
Can take a nap while dripping? It wasn’t my intention to let it drain for half the day. |
Yeah 7.5 Liters.I let it drain 30-45 minutes, didn't think that made a difference. thx Guys.

I just looked at my notes: 9.25 quarts to get to 4/5ths on the cluster gauge. That extra - accidental - 3.25 hours of dripping makes a difference...

What oil are you using? |
M1 0w-40 |
Not that I track but I am thinking switching to Liqui Moly 5w40. Anyone has any experience with that? |

I use M1 5w-50 was using M1 0w-40, but switched on LexVan oil analysis numbers.

My highly trusted mechanic from Orbit Racing in Riviera Beach, FL has a great technique that he uses on modern Porsches. He measures the amount of used oil that came out (including the filter oil) and puts that much in as a baseline, then adds oil as needed to top it off.
As with Dave C's technique, he likes to let them drain overnight and re-fill them in the morning to get a more complete change. |
So how much oil is in the total system, I think I read there was a total of 14 qts flowing around, but only half of it comes out at every oil change basically?
