Anyone else struggling with the Turbo S engine noise?

Sound proofing details
I followed the steps 12v Nick did in this thread. Project "Aria" - An Audiophile's Dream 991 Basically remove the door panels and put dynomat or equivalent on the door skin, then a sheet of mass-loaded vinyl under the door panel. It made a huge difference. Before the noise was everywhere, now it is all coming from the rear. As far as the wheel wells; I put dynomat on the housing area that is covered by the little wheelwell liners. Next I plan to remove the inside rear side panels and repeat what I did on the doors.

I do find there is a boomy sound, granted stock its not too bothersome...SO... I'm actually working on a resolution for this with Fabspeed motorsports right now and are targeting that rev range specifically. with our cars, the only catch is this solution wouldn't necessarily be quieter, it actually will be louder in the higher revs, but down low in the drone should be totally cancelled out or as close as you can physically get... Happy to tell you what's cooking if you're interested!!!!

I have a 2015 TTS and I agree there is an "unpleasant audio frequency" in 7th gear at cruising speed. I just assumed it was part of the Porsche 911 experience since this is my first one. I usually drive in 6th gear to avoid it. It was present with both stock and aftermarket exhaust.

I went on my first long trip today with my 2019 Turbo S and I am pretty unhappy at the end of the day. We all know the Turbo engine sounds like butt but I wasn't prepared for the loud boomy, droning noises it makes between 60-70mph and especially when accelerating very gradually, which is what driving on the highway in traffic usually entails. It's very loud and after a while, really exhausting.
It thoroughly wore me out after several hours, not to mention supplying a doosy of a headache. And it gets worse in Sport mode.
I bought this car to take a lot of highway trips and after today I am not sure I can stand driving it for more than a couple hours at a stretch. Very unhappy this evening. Really Porsche?

This could be a hard call for you...don't know if you've tried a Panamera Turbo or Panamera GTS or even a 911 GTS but you might like those better in terms of sound.

I just picked up my 2019 991.2 Turbo S last week, and have around 425 miles on it so far. Have put it through the paces pretty well - driven in Sport, Sport Plus, and Boost Mode. No issues at all with any "boomy" sounds from the engine. I'm new to the Porsche world, but maybe you ought to take her back to the dealership for a look?

Interesting thread and glad I clicked on it as I didn't know this existed. The wife and I did a long drive to bring my 2014 home and it seemed the biggest issue with noise was the road surface we were on. I am now going to have to play with this and see what I like better.

I bought the Turbo to get away from the downright loud 2012 C4 GTS that we really did not like for any distance drive. 200 miles in the GTS at 80 - 85 mph left your ears ringing and talking on the phone was near impossible. It was mostly road noise. Changing to Michelins helped a bit, but not enough to make the car useful for anything but short trips through the country, errands and track days.
The TT is much quieter when it comes to road noise, yet it does have that droning sound and I am going to disable the "Symposer" to see how that plays into the equation.

I had a 997.2 Turbo Cab. Loved the car, a lot of fun around town, but exhausting on long trips (more than 2 hours). I traded it in on a 2018 Panamera Turbo which is spectacular.
