May move my car to Florida next fall. Was planning to drive it myself from Pa to Fl. But thought I would ask for some info on having it transported.
Any info you all can share. I don't want a nightmare experience with a poor trucking company.
It would depend on you....I use Plycar for cars I care about and they are top notch but expensive...last car I shipped was a pristine 993....my guess is it would cost 2-2.5 grand to ship that distance in an enclosed trailer. I also drove with my son from Seattle to Austin in a 2001 boxster this summer that we shipped back in an open trailer for just north of $1000. In the latter case the car came back dirty but everything was fine. Generally the high end enclosed shippers you don't have to worry about. The low end open ones is likely to be hit or miss but generally they are OK. The main thing is make sure you always find out if they own the trucks or contract out.
My son-in-law just bought a 993TT from my son, and being the good dad that I am, I volunteered to drive it from Miami Beach to Pepack, NJ. I95 almost the entire way. Good roads, scenery was meh but I enjoyed myself. This way I got to see both my kids and my grandchildren and a little of the countryside. Now a days I would rather drive than fly anyhow.
I used Bears Transport. They are a broker. However, they seem to choose higher end shippers that know what they are doing. They got my car from ATL to CLE in one day, and were there on time to pick it up. My friend also used them to ship his M5 from CLE to SAN. They also did a perfect job. There were different trucks though each time, since they brokered them out to different companies.
Tons of other good options though, but when I checked with the larger transporters, they were all 3-4 weeks out for pickup and I didn't want the car sitting at the dealer for a month waiting to be picked up.

When I bought my new 2017 gts I drove straight down to Floria from Philidelphia area. Was a fun drive.
I used Kevin Schilling at Kanna Motorsports in Fayetteville, NC. (910) 676-3663. He's not just some guy that delivers cars - he's a serious Porsche guy.
He picked up my car quickly, kept me posted and knew exactly what he was doing - never cranked the car - just winched it in and out. I definitely recommend him.

the fall time is usually the busiest going to Florida, Open trailer $1000-$1300, enclosed $1700 - 2000.
I am getting quotes between $1k and $1500. All will work but I'm thinking I would really love to drive it. Maybe before Thanksgiving before the weather turns to crap.
How much will it cost for gas/tolls/wear and tear, (lodging if stopping midway) plus depreciation for 1200 miles on the odometer? Probably makes the cost of transport seem like a similar option that is far less time consuming.
