Default Car insurance Florida

Building a home in Florida (Naples). I will be moving my wife's Macan down in January. I have been with Geico for 30+ years and was surprised with the rate I got. Almost double Pa pricing.
Would love some tips on actual experience and will gladly take some tips on homeowners insurance too.

Stay away from captive agents (state farm, allstate, ect) and work with a independent agent that can provide you more options. I own 8 insurance agencies through out Florida. PM me if you wish and I will get you in the right direction.

I was going to go with Progressive. They seemed to have the best rate. If you have other recommendations let me know and I'll PM you.

I have one car registered in FL and others in NY. Car insurance in Florida is MUCH more expensive than NY, I'm sure the same goes for PA. I have USAA, which is great and even their prices were much more. It's annoying.

It seems to me tat there are lots of older drivers mixed with younger drivers at the extremes in Florida and that causes lots of accidents, i.e. in my 15 years of living in Florida in my 20s......hasn't changed much as far as dangerous drivers during my visits to the sunshine "rain daily at 3 pm" state..........

My suggestion is contact an independent agent (my offices have Progressive, Travelers, Infinity, Auto Owners, Gainsco, Foremost, Nationwide, ect).

If a captive agent gives a better rate than any of the companies you represent for equal products, is there any reason to use an independent agent?

There is no way a captive can give a better rate on home insurance in Florida. The only "captive" that even still writes home insurance here is State Farm and USAA and their rates are so high it is embarrassing. Typically, if you call an Allstate, State Farm, or other captive in Florida for a home quote they will give you a rate through one of the few carriers they are allowed to broker. If you want the best options call an independent agent that has access to 30 plus carriers. I have been doing this over 20 years in Florida, captive carriers are now a thing of the past....

I have finally decided on home owners insurance. Went to an independent agent where I could choose and tailor what I wanted. It's done. Once I move my wife's car down I will look at Progressive for her car. The rates were quite good.

Decided on Olympus for home insurance. Really like the coverage and deductible options. Will most likely choose Progressive for car when I move my wife's Macan. And then eventually the TTS.
Thanks for all the help, really looking forward to having house completed.

Progressive is good. Pay in full, go paperless, and use their "snapshot" device for most discounts.

I switched over from Geico to Progressive 2 years ago, I have 6 cars that I have insured and I went from $3300 every six months to $1980 every six months it was a no brainer.

Progressive here, paying $1,532.00 for both the Jetta (daily driver) and the Turbo S for a 6 month period...did this through AAA.
