I guess I will chime in. I do not have a dash cam yet but have been thinking about it.
I find this guy who reviews dash cams radar/laser detectors very knowledgeable.

Vortex Radar's highest rated dash cams are the BlackVue DR900S if you want the highest quality video, full featured, front and rear cams, or Viofo is you want cheap but good video. I have the DR900S and i can vouch for it too.

Second the DR900S, I just added it. Seems the recommendation is to buy with the Blackvue SDCard, it has been pretty reliable so far. They also updated the firmware to enable timelapse parking recording which is pretty handy. You can also get the Power Magic Pro to hook up without draining battery.

I have the Garmin 45 installed in my car. Had several other brands. Very satisfied with the Garmin 45.
Especially like the GPS location data, accurate time, aural warnings for lane deviation, closing traffic
in front and traffic movement in front on red light turning green. I had mine installed at local Best Buy Store.
In their opinion Gamin was the most reliable of all Dash Cam they sell. Also like its small size which makes it
inconspicuous, strong magnet mounting which makes it easy to change Micro SD memory card,
and relocates it to its original position. It also has the best resolution of those I've tried. Sharp video
makes it easy to read license plates.

I would also get the Blackvue 900S.
