Strange Dark Streaks Behind Wheel Well On Drivers Side
Hello all. Great to be on this forum and appreciate all the valuable info so far. I just picked up a 2017 991.2 turbo S. Car has 4800 miles on it. Since purchasing it I have washed the car a few times and I continuously get these strange dark steaks just behind the drivers side wheel well near the lower rocker panels. At first I thought it was a puddle I drove though but it only exists on the drivers side. Additionally, now that I am tuned to it, the streaks increase in quantity and length after a spirited drive more than other times. Dealer says it maybe an over filled washer fluid tank. I’ve checked the tank and you cannot even see the water level which to me means that it isn’t “overfilled”. When I touch the streaks it doesn’t seem overly oily but it doesn’t seem like it’s plain water either. Dealer doesn’t have any answers. No other signs of leakage on the floor, from the calipers, on the wheels, inside the wheel well or anywhere else. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f39f0a31b.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...13b072dd8.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...edecd47df.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...97a2d1b6c.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...32a64cc59.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...be5c4ebce.jpeg |

Subscribing. Also curious what the cause is. |
Tire dressing that splashes into joint of rocket panel and door and drips down OR
Grease from door hinges that leaks down ie especially after a wash or rain into the joint and on to the surface..... Had this on my Cayenne.... |
I have the same thing, not tire dressing or door grease, at least in my case. I got this for the first 6 months, drove me insane being in car care, took the wheel off and industrial cleaned the inner wheel well, fixed NOTHING, there was nothing to find, since then it has not came back, maybe it will but not so far. My car has not been in the rain, and I have never seen anything like it. The Porsche dealership looked at it for 5 seconds and said "you ran thru a puddle" , I said look again, he said make an appointment and we will check it out

I believe you will find it is from your windshield washer reservoir. Check that you aren't overfilled or run it a few times to get it lower.
If you run your finger through it should smell like washer fluid. Check your reservoir cap and fill. |
Search "dirty nuns" on the 991 Forum.

I used a turkey baster to remove some of the fluid and the problem got less noticeable and is ALMOST now gone, but occasionally can still be seen after energetic driving. I will probably run the washer a few times the next time I wash the car. |
If they top it off which really means filled it to the max you will get this happening. I do not have the issue I just keep it at a lower level.
Lex When I searched for dirty nuns I got back some fairly disturbing content ;) |
The responses posted above are similar to what I've been reading online, however I think its absurd that no clear or definitive source can be found. I mean there is clearly seepage from somewhere. What I will do is remove all the water from the windshield washer reservoir and drive the car in that condition for a bit. If there are no more streaks, then I will fill the tank back up and drive it some more. If the streaks reappear then the culprit is clear. Keep you all posted...

Happened on my Carrera GTS...washer fluid leaking out...over filled a little.

The windshield reservoir has an overflow drain to protect from over-filling. It's a known and well documented condition, and nothing at all to worry about or research any more. It's not a problem.
