CarFax question
 

Hi, guys. New here, but shopping for my first Porsche TTS.

I've found what I thought was the perfect car. But, the CarFax shows:

No accidents reported to CarFax.

Damage reported.

The dealer states the rear bumper cover was replaced, but claims no further damage. Doesn't know what happened.

I'm going to request the repair invoice, assuming he can get it.

The car has been discounted to a degree.

I've been warned by a friend in the car business to NOT buy, says it will be hell to sell one day.

Most you guys have been buying and selling Porsche's for years. Would you buy, assuming the damage report is actually minor?

It's a 14', TTS with less than 20k miles, and <$120,000. Hard loaded and original MSRP was greater than $190,000+. 2 year extended warranty, and the car looks great, otherwise.

Car sounds great but you really want to know what happened before pulling the trigger.

Take whatever you see (and don't see) on CARFAX with a grain of salt. The CARFAX may report no accidents and you may think you're buying an accident free car, but accidents can pop up on the report at a later time. Do a thorough PPI with a bumper removal if the owner agrees and it would also be good to have a paint thickness gauge handy to check for paint thickness variances which would mean a respray.

Carfax should be used as a tool, and not just trusted. You can have a totaled car and it can be 100% accident free according to Carfax, if the repairing shop does not report it, Carfax does not know it happened. I use Carfax as a tool like looking the car over, I always have someone else look it over on a lift, it can be a repair shop you trust, but a second set of eyes can only help
