Turbo psi icon in vehicle info gauge
 

Hi guys,

I looked through the manual and perhaps I missed it but I cannot find what this turbo psi icon represents, when I'm driving it remains at 0 psi at all times. Any input appreciated, thanks all.

That's the boost gauge. it should increase (0 to 15ish) depending how hard you hit the gas pedal and which model you have. if it always shows 0 when you are at wide open throttle something is wrong.

That is your turbo boost indication. It will read up to 13 psi in your T. You need to accelerate harder to see the boost pressure increase.

I only have 199 miles on the Carrera T and haven't driven it hard as I am adhering to the 4000 rpm break-in rule. Really curious....nothing seems wrong with the car at all, drives amazing. I can hear the turbos spool up.

If you turn the dial to Sport Plus, the car attempts to keep to boost higher even at lower RPMs and off-throtltle. You should more easily see a 1 or 2 psi reading pop-up even when driving with break-in level RPMs. If your car is a PDK you'll want to keep the shifter in manual mode though or else it will easily exceed your 4K RPM goal.

It's a manual. I just tried Sport Plus just sitting in the driveway and blipped the throttle to 3300 for a second and saw "1" flash briefly. This tells me I simply haven't revved it high enough to see a change from 0, and I have only driven in regular or just Sport mode, not Sport Plus.

Seems to be working fine.

Okay good - so the boost readout IS working.

Once you make it through the break-in period and you finally really open up the throttle, you'll not only see higher boost reflected on the display but you might even see a reflection of the smile on your face.

Yep its working. I'm sure the smile will come in time due to the psi boost but trust me I'm smiling now. Really is quite a special little 911.

You dont need to drive it that hard to get boost readings. If its always 0 you have a boost leak

Put it in sport plus you should have 1 psi, instantaneously even off throttle cruising

I went for a drive around town a little while ago. It's working perfectly fine. When I put it in Sport+ the boost immediately went from 0 up to about 5 or 6 psi just around town. When I switched back to regular Sport mode it went back to 0 psi as I was not exceeding 3500 rpm give or take.

If you want to break in the engine sooner, cruise at 3000-3500 rpm. Engine break in is a function of engine revolutions, not tire revolutions. Got it?

On the subject of boost......why isn't there at least some boost going to the engine at all times? What are the turbos doing when it reads 0 on the gauge? Are they being bypassed and not spinning or are they spinning but not adding any pressure to the intake side?

I have had two 991.2's. One a PDK and now a manual. With both cars and daily driving I rarely see/saw the boost gauge change from 0.

Unlike the PDK that likes to shift early and keep the engine around 2,000 RPM, my manual car sees a lot of 3,000-5,000 RPM shift points, but still 0 on the boost gauge (ok maybe 1 psi). I can't imagine that at 4,000-5,000 RPM's there is not enough exhaust gas to spin the turbos and provide boost. I wonder what the strategy is?

I've come to realize that in my car: Smooth acceleration = 0 or minimal boost.....Gas pedal pushed quickly or floored = boost.

I noticed same thing which caused me to initiate this topic here. The guys above educated me on that if you put the 991 in "Sport Plus" you'll see the psi boost gauge fluctuating up/down during acceleration in the 3500ish and up range. I only have 200 miles on my T so I have been VERY careful not to exceed 4k rpms and when in "Sport" mode you won't see any psi boost other than 0, unless you really WOT the car which I'm not about to do.
