Hope the driver was ok. The car still looked intact.

Wow. I got to say I don't think I would ever go 216mph even if my car was tuned for it.

Tires, road surfaces, aerodynamics of these cars are not designed for those speeds. I wouldn't feel safe in my TTS at 200mph forget about a GTR. Plus it looked like a driver error - he went on the grass.

From what I've read it appears the track conditions may have been the major contributing factor to the crash...and of course the speed...as Stealth says..these (street) cars are getting so fast it seems so many variables like tires, aerodynamics, safety systems, etc are not up to par with the speeds...

I hate to say this but I get it and folks love the rush. However there is a reason fast race cars have roll cages, fire suppression and not to mention all the regulations and safe guards regarding harness, Hans etc etc. A street car is not built for those speeds with too many unknown variables. I just hope folks talking these risks are in a place that they are aware and prepared of these horrible possibility.

God bless and prayers for his family and friends. Godspeed.

Yes. It looked like the breaking area was short necessitating hard braking, the track looked dirty or like there was debris there. Plus this looked like an older GTR so who knows how good the brake balance or suspension balance was. I don't know if it was driver error or brake balance, but once he got on the grass at that speed he was toast.

Saw a pic from another site that showed some significant ripples in the pavement - no good at 150MPH, much less 216...

It is just so unfortunate and sad that often ego gets in the way of common sense and safety...human nature drives us to do everything possible (financially) to get to speed but it appears more often than not that that's usually where it stops and the results often of attaining that goal are of lesser concern...I guess the reason of failure will soon be known to us that were not present but my bet is the speed exceeded the conditions
